Bridgerton’s Season 4 Trailer Teases a Cinderella Fairytale

Dearest gentle reader, it’s time for a rags to riches tale.

The official trailer for Bridgerton season four is here, and it hints at a grand romance between Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), known as the Lady in Silver.

As the new season begins, Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan)—previously unmasked as the writer behind Lady Whistledown—shares all the latest gossip with Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel). This includes news that Lady Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell) is actively hoping her son, Benedict, will find a wife, and she’s hosting a masquerade ball to help him meet potential matches.

Sophie gets her chance at a fairytale when she secretly attends a ball, disguised so no one recognizes her. She and Benedict immediately connect, and he finds himself captivated, calling her the most fascinating person he’s ever known. However, just as midnight approaches, Sophie flees, leaving behind a single glove as a potential clue for Benedict to find her.

The new season’s plot is inspired by Julia Quinn’s novel, An Offer From a Gentleman, and has echoes of the Cinderella story. However, according to showrunner Jess Brownell, the character of Sophie isn’t a helpless woman waiting to be rescued.

She’s a strategic thinker, always planning several steps in advance,” she explained to Entertainment Weekly in May. “She’ll definitely surprise Benedict with her actions.”

Luke, age 37, is excited to adapt the story of Sophie and Benedict for television.

He told Netflix’s Tudum that the scripts Jess and her team created are fantastic and incredibly exciting.

Oh my goodness, it’s like Bridgerton meets Cinderella, but SO much more! You know those classic fairytale feelings – the magic, the romance… I grew up with those stories, and the idea of them being blended into the Bridgerton world? It’s just… thrilling! I can’t even begin to explain how excited I am to see it all unfold. It’s like everything I’ve ever wanted in a show!

Luke observed that the dynamic between Sophie and Benedict this season highlights the tension between classic, romantic fairy tales and the complexities of real life.

He explained that you need to balance both the idealistic idea of love and the practicalities of a relationship. He believes that ‘true love’ exists where those two things meet.

Yerin was excited to play Sophie, particularly because the character is dealing with a lot of challenges and personal growth.

I was immediately captivated by Sophie because she faces challenges right away,” she explained. “Whether it’s dealing with social expectations or keeping her emotions hidden from Benedict, she’s constantly navigating difficult situations.

The fourth season of Bridgerton is coming to Netflix in two parts. The first set of episodes will be available starting January 29th, and the remaining episodes will be released on February 26th.
