Venom: Let There Be Carnage Quietly Becomes a Streaming Hit

Four years after hitting cinemas, the film is now gaining popularity on streaming services. The second movie in Tom Hardy’s often-discussed superhero series is currently available on Starz and Hulu, and it’s becoming one of the most-watched films this month, surpassing other titles.

The movie Venom: Let There Be Carnage is becoming a popular streaming choice worldwide as the year ends. According to data from FlixPatrol, the 2021 sequel is currently one of the most-watched films on Starz in the U.S., reaching the No. 5 spot for the week of December 18th. Viewers in countries like Japan, France, and the Netherlands are also streaming Venom 2 frequently, with the film available on platforms like Hulu and HBO Max, as well as other local services.

I was so excited when Venom: Let There Be Carnage finally came out on October 1, 2021! It brought back Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, the journalist who gets mixed up with that alien symbiote, Venom. They team up as this kind of reluctant hero duo, protecting people from all sorts of super-powered baddies. But the real treat was seeing Carnage finally brought to life on screen – Woody Harrelson was fantastic as Cletus Kasady, the serial killer who bonds with that incredibly dangerous symbiote.

Critics gave the film a 58

After Let There Be Carnage, the series concluded with Venom: The Last Dance in 2024. Unfortunately, the final movie wasn’t as popular with audiences, and the franchise ended with a disappointing reception.

Venom Deserves to Return In the MCU

The Venom movies are the only real success story in Sony’s Spider-Man universe so far. Other films like Kraven the Hunter, Madame Web, and Morbius haven’t done well in theaters. However, despite getting negative reviews and performing poorly in cinemas, many of these Spider-Man films have found an audience and done well on streaming services like Netflix and Disney+.

Look, I’ve been watching the numbers, and with Venom still doing well on streaming, it’s pretty obvious to me that Tom Hardy’s Venom deserves a bigger, better playground than the one Sony’s built. Venom: The Last Dance felt like a pretty definitive ending for his story, but honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Lethal Protector pop up somewhere else in the MCU down the line. Sony doesn’t seem to have any more Venom movies planned right now, which, frankly, opens the door for him to potentially join a different cinematic universe. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

The next two Avengers movies, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, will wrap up the current story arc of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which involves different realities crashing into each other in a massive final showdown. These films are confirmed to feature characters from other Marvel properties, like the X-Men, and many believe even more crossovers are planned, potentially giving a satisfying ending to various storylines.

Bringing Tom Hardy back as Venom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would open the door for a showdown with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. The ending of Venom: Let There Be Carnage hinted at a possible fight between the two rivals. Although Venom briefly appears in Spider-Man: No Way Home, he’s sent back to his own universe before they can actually meet. Hardy has mentioned plans for a crossover that ultimately didn’t happen.

The next Avengers movies might be the last opportunity for Marvel and Sony to team up Tom Hardy’s Venom with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. Hardy’s portrayal of Venom has been a highlight, and he deserves a chance to bring that character into the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, even if it’s just for one film.
