As a huge fan of Weekly Shonen Jump, it’s been a bit of a mixed year! They launched over a dozen new manga, but honestly, a lot of them didn’t really stick. We even lost some promising titles like Kaedgami, which was a real shame. 2025 was tough, no doubt, but then September hit and everything changed with the return of Jujutsu Kaisen! The sequel manga created so much excitement, and it’s been amazing seeing the world expanded with new characters. But here’s a little secret – quietly debuting alongside it was Someone Hertz, a romantic comedy by Ei Yamano. It started small, but it’s been steadily gaining fans, and I’m really enjoying its simple, yet totally captivating story!
The first volume of the manga will be released on January 5, 2026, and was available for pre-order on Amazon Japan. Unfortunately, pre-orders are currently sold out, and the publisher hasn’t announced when more will be available. It’s common for newer manga series to have limited initial pre-order quantities, as Shueisha prefers to gauge interest before printing large numbers. However, selling out of pre-orders completely is still unusual.
What Is The Plot of Someone Hertz?

Mimei Fukumori, the popular student council president, discovers he shares a love for a late-night comedy radio show with his classmate, Kurage Mizuo. Mizuo is known for her wit and frequently has her funny messages read on air, something Mimei hopes to achieve as well. As Mimei tries to become funnier and get his own comments featured, his competitive spirit and friendship with Mizuo begin to blossom into something deeper.
What’s Next For The Manga’s Future?

The series is partnering with All Night Nippon, a popular Japanese radio show that’s been on the air since 1967, according to reports. While it’s still early days, an anime adaptation could happen within the next two years if the series continues to be successful.
While Modulo, Someone Hertz didn’t achieve widespread global popularity, it’s found a strong audience in Japan. Despite not ranking among the top new series on Manga Plus’ year-end list, the first volume of Someone Hertz has already sold out before its official release in Japan.
The first volume of the manga will be released in Japan on January 5th, 2026. An English release date hasn’t been announced yet, but we anticipate hearing more next year. Currently, 15 chapters are available to read on the official Manga Plus app and the Viz Media website.
