A24 has become a leading name in contemporary horror filmmaking. Starting with the critically acclaimed Under the Skin in 2013, the studio has consistently delivered unique and thought-provoking horror films—like I Saw the TV Glow, Midsommar, and Bodies Bodies Bodies—that have resonated with both critics and viewers. However, fans will soon have fewer options for streaming two of A24’s most popular horror titles, as they’re being removed from HBO Max in the coming days.
Both Hereditary and Talk to Me will no longer be available to stream on HBO Max after December 31st. Hereditary, released in 2018, is Ari Aster’s first film as a director, and tells the story of the Graham family as they grapple with a frightening family history and a dark destiny after the death of their mother. Talk to Me, released in 2022, follows a group of friends who find a way to communicate with spirits using a preserved hand.
Hereditary Helped Solidify A24’s Horror Legacy
A24 began making horror films in 2013 with Under the Skin, and followed up with the well-received The Witch a few years later. However, it was Hereditary that truly established A24 as a leading force in modern horror. The film earned high praise on Rotten Tomatoes (90
Hereditary is a truly exceptional modern horror film, powerfully depicting grief, family trauma, and the weight of the past. Director Ari Aster expertly creates a constant feeling of dread through unsettling sound, visuals, and subtle clues, leading to genuinely shocking and impactful moments. A major highlight is Toni Collette’s incredible performance as a mother struggling with loss and slowly losing control.
Hereditary wasn’t just a scary movie—it changed what people thought horror could be. It showed that unsettling, character-driven stories about families could be as frightening as traditional gore and jump scares. Since then, A24 has become known for consistently releasing unique and disturbing horror films like Midsommar, Talk to Me, I Saw the TV Glow, and the X trilogy. And they’re not slowing down, with several more horror projects planned for release through 2026, including The Undertone, The Backrooms, and a follow-up to Talk to Me.
Where to Stream Hereditary and Talk to Me After They Leave HBO Max?
A24’s critically acclaimed horror films, Hereditary and Talk to Me, are leaving HBO Max, which will significantly reduce the streamer’s horror offerings. Luckily, fans won’t have trouble finding them elsewhere. Starting January 1st, both movies will be available to stream for free on Tubi, and they are also available to rent or purchase from various online platforms.
