They even created a ‘Summer of Superman’ campaign to keep the excitement going and ensure he stayed in the spotlight.

As a huge Superman fan, I’m thrilled to see Clark Kent finally getting the spotlight he deserves. From unique stories like Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum to being central to the major DC K.O. event, this has been a fantastic year for the Man of Tomorrow – the most attention he’s received in years! While many great Superman stories came out, a few really highlighted what a phenomenal year it was for him. Here are 5 key moments from 2025 that prove just how big it was for the legendary DC Comics hero.

5. Superman Being Dosed with Purple Kryptonite

I was a big fan of Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum from the beginning, especially because of the fantastic battle in the first issue. The series explores what happens when Superman encounters different types of kryptonite and tests their effects. The story starts with purple kryptonite, which messes with Superman’s sense of time. To make things even more challenging, he has to fight Solomon Grundy! The fight is brilliantly depicted in a disorienting, non-linear style, mirroring Superman’s own confusion. It was a truly impressive fight, and I wish I could experience it again for the first time.

4. Superman’s Rematch with Godzilla

When the worlds of DC superheroes and giant monsters first collided, Superman surprisingly lost to Godzilla. He got a second chance in Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong 2, where the heroes were taken to the monsters’ territory. With Godzilla running wild, Superman used a growth serum to become as large as a kaiju – but it dulled his mind. Though not thinking clearly, his increased size and power allowed him to fight Godzilla to a draw in an epic and satisfying battle between two iconic characters.

3. Absolute Superman’s Final Battle with Ra’s al Ghul

While not the main version of Superman, Kal-El is still incredibly strong and resilient. This year’s Absolute Superman storyline focused on a battle against Ra’s al Ghul, the head of the powerful Lazarus Corporation. Al Ghul tried relentlessly to break Superman, hoping to turn him into a devoted soldier and heir. Despite facing brainwashing and a massive military attack, Superman persevered and ultimately triumphed, demonstrating that even in a bleak world, hope can prevail.

2. Superman Developing Kryptonite Immunity

Dan Slott’s Superman Unlimited lived up to the hype! The series kicked off with a major twist: a massive kryptonite meteoroid crashed to Earth, and Superman was right in its path. Luckily, he survived by developing a new ability – he can now endure kryptonite’s effects for about three minutes. While a fantastic power, he can only use it once daily. With kryptonite now readily available, Superman is facing some incredibly difficult decisions.

1. Superman Gaining Darkseid’s Ultimate Power

Essentially, the comic series DC K.O. centers around Superman’s journey. In the second issue, Superman and a group of heroes and villains compete in a hunt for powerful objects. Lex Luthor nearly defeats Superman, harshly questioning his ability to win the competition or face Darkseid. However, Superman proves his strength by demonstrating his willingness to sacrifice himself, which earns him the round’s prize: Darkseid’s Omega Sanction. This moment powerfully challenges the notion that Superman is a dull character.
