The star famous for his action roles is stepping away from the Fast and Furious series to focus on another successful franchise. Though he’s widely recognized as Dominic Toretto, many fans consider his portrayal of the sci-fi character Richard B. Riddick to be his most compelling. All of Riddick’s live-action films will soon be available on a new streaming service.
I remember when Vin Diesel first blew me away as Riddick! It was way back in 2000, and honestly, the movie was a bit of a wild ride – some people loved it, others weren’t so sure. But it definitely established him as an action star. Before he was tearing up the streets as Dom in the Fast & Furious franchise, Diesel showed us he could carry a film as this really enigmatic character. Riddick is a convict who ends up marooned on a hostile alien planet after a ship crash, and let me tell you, it’s crawling with terrifying creatures that only come out when it gets dark. Luckily for him – and the few survivors – Riddick has incredible night vision, which gives him a fighting chance.
David Twohy’s Pitch Black gained a dedicated following with its old-school style, intense thrills, and Vin Diesel’s breakout role. The story has grown considerably since then, and the 2004 sequel revealed that Riddick is the last of the Furyans – a powerful and ancient race known for both their strength and intelligence.
The last time audiences saw Riddick was in the 2013 film, which stripped the story back to its core: Riddick is alone once more, battling both alien creatures and people seeking revenge. Though the Riddick movies have always had a mixed reception, fans continue to love the series, and Vin Diesel is preparing to return as Riddick in a fourth installment.

Great news for fans: a fourth Riddick movie is officially in the works! Vin Diesel has been posting photos and videos from the set on social media, revealing the title is Riddick: Furya. David Twohy is returning to write and direct, and Vin Diesel will reprise his role as Riddick. Details about the story are starting to emerge, hinting at what we can expect from the new film.
Riddick makes his way back to his home world, a place from his distant past that he worries may be destroyed. He discovers a group of Furyans battling for survival against a dangerous new creature, and surprisingly, some of them share a connection with him he never expected.
Vin Diesel has hinted at a larger future for the Riddick series. He shared potential concept art on Instagram for a project called “The Riddick Universe,” featuring images of futuristic hoverbikes and landscapes. This isn’t the first time Diesel has suggested expanding the franchise; last year, he excitedly mentioned that the Riddick universe was growing and that he was inspired by the possibilities.
