The mysteries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe aren’t being resolved very well lately. A major issue is that Marvel Studios takes on too many storylines at once. With so many films and TV series, they’re creating more questions than they can answer. A good example is the Disney+ show Secret Invasion. It introduces G’iah, a seemingly ordinary Skrull, who gains incredible powers. She defeats the villain and saves the day, but the ending suggests her story isn’t over. Despite this, she hasn’t appeared in anything since, leaving what many consider to be the franchise’s most powerful character completely absent.
The poor reviews of Secret Invasion might be because the people in charge don’t want to highlight past errors, and G’iah’s absence likely contributes to that. However, not every unanswered question is so complicated. There’s one existing mystery that Marvel could easily resolve to the audience’s satisfaction. Unfortunately, Avengers: Doomsday is missing an opportunity, failing to even mention this mystery in its latest trailer.
Thor Has Unfinished Business With One of the MCU’s Newest Characters
The fifth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been inconsistent, with some movies being strong and others falling flat. A major highlight of this phase is its introduction of mutants, starting with Deadpool & Wolverine. The film brings Deadpool into the MCU, alongside a version of Wolverine, and follows their mission to stop a rebellious group from the Time Variance Authority who are trying to erase realities they don’t approve of. Before facing consequences, Deadpool discovers his future from the TVA, including a future encounter with Thor.
Even though Mr. Paradox tries to prevent it, Deadpool briefly sees a vision of his future self, looking battered after a fight. Thankfully, Thor is there to help him cope with the pain. However, it’s not being near an Asgardian god that really strikes Wade – it’s seeing Thor cry. This image stays with Deadpool throughout the events of Deadpool & Wolverine, and he keeps trying to figure out why Thor was so upset. He doesn’t find out the answer right away, as other, more pressing issues arise, but he’s confident he’ll learn the truth eventually. It might not be during a world-ending crisis, though – someone else might reveal it first.
The MCU Doesn’t Seem Ready to Do Deadpool a Solid
Before his quick cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, Thor last battled in Thor: Love and Thunder, where he fought Gorr the God Butcher. Though it was a tough fight, Thor won and unexpectedly gained a daughter named Love. The latest teaser for Doomsday centers around her, showing Thor praying to his father, Odin, for the strength to succeed in his upcoming battle and find his way back home.
Although the moment feels heartfelt, it’s a risky move for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to showcase Thor in a romantic relationship when audiences might not be prepared for it. Especially since Love and Thunder is often considered the weakest of the Thor films. A smarter approach would have been to hint at a future meeting between Thor and Deadpool, as that’s one of the few things fans overwhelmingly agree they’d like to see.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
