The Amalgam Comics event brought the DC and Marvel universes together in a groundbreaking crossover. It imagined a completely new world filled with characters created by combining heroes and villains from both sides. Many of these combined characters starred in their own short stories, fighting evil in this unique setting. These Amalgam characters are often even more powerful than their original inspirations – combining the strengths of two already formidable heroes results in incredibly strong fusions. They frequently have the combined powers of both characters they’re based on, allowing them to accomplish amazing things.
As a comic book movie fan, I always found the Amalgam Universe fascinating – that brief period where DC and Marvel heroes merged. Even though it didn’t last, it really did create some of the most incredibly powerful characters we’ve ever seen from either of those companies. It’s a shame it was temporary, but the impact of those combined heroes is still felt today.
7) Magneto

This version of Magneto, from the Amalgam Universe, blends the powers of the classic Marvel character with the inventive mind of Doctor Will Magnus, creator of the Metal Men. Known as Erik Magnus, this Magneto combines his existing control over magnetism with a genius for robotics. Faced with the threat of deadly Sentinel robots targeting mutants, he decides to build his own robotic force for good. He creates the Magnetic Men – powerful robots he not only brings to life, but also enhances with his magnetic abilities, allowing him to make them stronger and quickly repair any damage. Even without his robots, Magneto is a formidable opponent, capable of flight, energy blasts, EMP generation, and creating protective force fields.
6) Speed Demon

Blaze Allen, also known as Speed Demon, is a uniquely powerful hero born from a combination of two iconic characters: the Flash and Ghost Rider. Driven by the tragic murder of his wife at the hands of the Night Spectre, Blaze merged with the demon Etrigan, transforming into the terrifying Speed Demon. This fusion grants him incredible speed – faster than anyone can follow – as well as the ability to unleash scorching hellfire that instantly destroys anything in its path. He also possesses Ghost Rider’s infamous Penance Stare, a devastating attack that forces opponents to feel all the suffering they’ve caused to others, regardless of their own power.
5) Iron Lantern

Hal Stark, also known as Iron Lantern, is a superhero who combines the abilities of Iron Man and Green Lantern, focusing on creating powerful weapons to fight crime. As a wealthy engineer, Hal discovered the remains of an alien spaceship, but crashed nearby during his investigation. A piece of debris pierced his chest, and to survive, he built a high-tech suit of armor using the alien metal. This Iron Lantern armor grants him incredible powers, including super strength, the ability to shoot energy blasts, interstellar travel, the creation of solid-light constructs, and even time travel. In one battle, Hal faced a villain the size of a mountain, Great White, by creating a giant version of himself. He ultimately defeated Great White by launching him into space and destroying him from within.
4) Amazon

In the Amalgam Universe, Ororo, known as Amazon, grows up on the secluded island of Themyscira. She later ventures into the wider world and becomes a powerful defender of humanity. Because of her upbringing among the Amazons, she develops unique ways to use her ability to control the weather, surpassing even the Storm of the main Marvel Universe. Ororo can even create a lasso made of lightning, forcing anyone caught in it to speak truthfully. Her powers are incredibly strong—she can even fight and wound Poseidon, the Greek god of storms, with powerful lightning bolts. Like all versions of Storm, Amazon is a truly formidable natural force.
3) Silver Racer

Both Marvel’s Silver Surfer and DC’s Black Racer are cosmic figures who foreshadow destruction. Willie Lincoln, known as Silver Racer, blends elements of both characters. As a former herald of the world-ending villain Galactiac and now the grim reaper of the Asgods, Silver Racer typically collects souls without getting involved in worldly affairs. However, June Masters successfully persuades him to aid the Challengers of the Unknown in their fight against Galactiac. Earth is ultimately saved thanks to Silver Racer’s incredible power. He can travel across the universe instantly on his skis, kill with a single touch, and even defeat Galactiac on his own.
2) Thorion

Thorion, a powerful hero who combines the strengths of Marvel’s Thor and DC’s Orion, protects the Asgods from threats like Thanoseid and L’ok D’saad. Born as the son of Odin the Highfather, he wields the Astro-Force Hammer, a weapon fueled by limitless energy that allows him to defeat enemies with incredible force. When L’ok attempts to obliterate the universe using the reality-altering Mother Cube, Thorion destroys both the cube and the villains Surtur, Kalibak, and Mangog, even at the cost of his own life. However, this sacrifice doesn’t end Thorion’s story; he’s reborn as a cosmic god known as the Celestial, becoming even more powerful than before.
1) Doctor Strangefate

Charles Xavier, known as Doctor Strangefate, is an incredibly powerful being from a combined Marvel/DC universe. He possesses the abilities of Doctor Strange, Doctor Fate, and Professor X, making him a master of both telepathy and mystic arts. Trained by Nabu the Ancient One, Strangefate can influence events, send people to other dimensions, control minds, manipulate time and space, change matter, and even create armies. Remarkably, he survives even when the universe he’s from is destroyed. Ultimately, Strangefate convinces Doctor Strange to help him rebuild that universe as its own separate reality.
