As a fan, I’ve always noticed that every hero needs a great villain, and the Flash is no different. The Flash isn’t just one person, though – it’s a title passed down through characters like Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, Wally West, and Bart Allen. But no matter who is the Flash, they all have the same main enemy: the Reverse-Flash. Just like the Flash, different people have taken on the Reverse-Flash role over the years, and they all seem to have a personal grudge against someone in the Flash family. Each Reverse-Flash is incredibly fast and, unfortunately, really enjoys causing pain – they’re basically a twisted, dark version of the Flash.
For generations, stretching from the Golden Age of comics to the 30th century, the Flash and Reverse-Flash have been bitter rivals. This collection highlights the most powerful and dangerous versions of Reverse-Flash the Flash Family has ever faced.
5) Rival

Edward Clariss, known as the Rival, was the first to oppose the Golden Age Flash, Jay Garrick. A fellow university professor, Clariss tried to duplicate the accident that gave Jay his super-speed. When he succeeded, he became a criminal and attempted to murder Jay. Although his powers didn’t last, the Rival repeatedly returned, determined to kill Jay and those close to him. While he paved the way for future Reverse-Flashes, the Rival wasn’t particularly powerful or a major threat to the Flash Family and is often overshadowed by those who came after him.
4) Inertia

Thaddeus Thawne, also known as Inertia, is Bart Allen (Impulse)’s greatest enemy and a clone created from him. Like Bart, Inertia originally came from the 30th century but traveled back in time. He was raised in a special program designed to make him calculating and cruel, and he was taught to hate the Allen family, especially Bart, whom he wants to kill. Inertia formed his own group of villains and briefly went by the name Kid Zoom while working with another version of the villain Zoom. He constantly tries to harm those Bart cares about, including his girlfriend, Valeria Perez, and the Teen Titans. Inertia is a malicious and clever individual who believes the rivalry between the Allen and Thawne families will continue for generations.
3) New 52 Reverse-Flash

When DC Comics relaunched its universe with the “New 52” event, a new version of Reverse-Flash appeared with a personal connection to the Flash’s loved ones. This Reverse-Flash was Danny West, the brother of Barry Allen’s girlfriend, Iris, and the father of the new Kid Flash, Wallace. After an accident gave him access to the Speed Force, Danny became fixated on traveling back in time to prevent his abusive father from harming him or Iris. As Reverse-Flash, he started killing others who had the Speed Force, hoping to steal their power for time travel. Despite being a dangerous villain with a sympathetic backstory, Danny was killed during a mission with the Suicide Squad and hasn’t reappeared since.
2) Zoom

Hunter Zolomon, once a close friend of Wally West, has faced immense tragedy throughout his life. His mother was killed by his father, a serial killer, his fiancée died during an FBI operation gone wrong, and he was paralyzed by Gorilla Grodd. When Wally refused to use time travel to prevent Hunter’s injury, Hunter’s mental state deteriorated. Unable to travel back in time himself, Hunter developed the ability to speed up his own personal timeline, creating the appearance of super-speed. Becoming the villain Zoom, he tried to toughen Wally by subjecting him to terrible hardships, culminating in the devastating loss of Wally’s wife Linda’s unborn child. Zoom has since become a major and recurring enemy of the Flash and his family.
1) Professor Zoom

Eobard Thawne, better known as Professor Zoom and the Reverse-Flash, is the Flash family’s greatest enemy and the cause of their most devastating losses. Originally a fan of Barry Allen from the 25th century, Thawne recreated the accident that gave Barry his powers. When he traveled to the past and learned he was fated to be Barry’s nemesis, he lost his mind. Using time travel, Thawne became responsible for every misfortune in Barry’s life, including the deaths of his mother and wife, and even manipulated events to create the villain Zoom. Thawne is also the most powerful Reverse-Flash ever, as he’s an immortal paradox unaffected by normal cause and effect or the rules of time travel. This makes him one of the most ruthless and powerful villains in the DC Universe.
