It’s always a great time for a popular manga series to be adapted into anime, particularly those from Shonen Jump. We’ve seen this with classic titles like Kinnikuman and Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, which received new anime series long after their manga concluded. Even manga that were canceled, such as Black Torch and Psyren, are now getting anime adaptations.
From bringing back classic anime to adapting manga for the first time, Shonen Jump is open to anything. To keep this success going, several amazing older manga deserve new anime adaptations starting in 2026, regardless of how long ago they were originally published.
10) Neuro: Supernatural Detective

Yusei Matsui’s Neuro: Supernatural Detective features Neuro Nogami, a demon detective who solves mysteries on Earth after having already solved them all in the demon realm—he needs to solve human mysteries to survive. To avoid detection, Neuro uses high schooler Yako Katsuragi as a public face for his work, even though Yako often doesn’t want to take credit.
Neuro is a unique and rare manga series from Shonen Jump that blends mystery with supernatural elements. It’s especially notable as the first work by Yusei Matsui, the creator of Assassination Classroom, and shares that series’ quirky humor and emotional depth. While Neuro did receive an anime adaptation, the changes made to the story mean a fresh reboot would be very welcome.
9) Mx0

Yasuhiro Kano’s Mx0 tells the story of Taiga Kuzumi, who breaks into Seinagi High School hoping to confront a girl he believes caused him to fail an important exam. He soon discovers the school is actually a place where students learn magic. To keep the school’s secret safe, Taiga is forced to enroll and pretend to be a talented magician, even though he has no magical ability whatsoever.
Even though it only lasted a short time in the early 2000s, Mx0 developed a dedicated fanbase who loved its characters and original magic system, and people still talk about it fondly today. With the recent announcement of an anime for Psyren – another series that was canceled after a few years – there’s renewed hope that Mx0 might get another chance.
8) Cool Shock B.T.

Cool Shock B.T. is the first manga series by Hirohiko Araki, the creator of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. It follows B.T., a cunning thief who uses elaborate plans to overcome his opponents, even when he’s not entirely a hero. His friend, Koichi Mugikari, often gets caught up in these adventures with him.
Hirohiko Araki is well-known for creating characters that look amazing and telling dramatic, exciting stories, and Cool Shock B.T. definitely delivers on both fronts. Given the recent surge in popularity and new additions to the series, now would be a great time to create an anime adaptation.
7) Ultimate Muscle

Yudetamago’s Ultimate Muscle, also called Kinnikuman Nisei, is a direct sequel to the popular Kinnikuman manga. Set years after the original story, a new wave of evil threatens the universe. With the original heroes aging, a new generation of fighters must step up to protect people. This includes Kinnikuman’s son, Kinniku Mantaro, who is both a bit of a scaredy-cat and has questionable habits.
Ultimate Muscle successfully built upon the story of Kinnikuman with a fresh cast of characters and improved visuals and action. The original anime was a hit in America, leading to a second season. Although the anime didn’t complete the story, the recent success of the new Kinnikuman anime makes now a great time to revisit and potentially continue it.
6) Eyeshield 21

In the manga Eyeshield 21 by Riichiro Inagaki and Yusuke Murata, shy Sena Kobayakawa is surprisingly recruited to his school’s football team, the Deimon Devil Bats. Though he’s hesitant at first, joining the team quickly turns out to be a positive experience for him.
The Eyeshield 21 anime, despite being quite long, didn’t fully adapt the story and included a lot of unnecessary content, making it a weak version of the original manga. However, the Eyeshield 21 manga itself is a standout sports title from Shonen Jump with fantastic artwork and well-developed characters, and deserves a new, more accurate adaptation.
5) Fire Punch

Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga, Fire Punch, takes place in a frozen, ruined world. The story centers on Agni, a man consumed by unquenchable flames and blessed with incredible healing. Driven by the loss of his sister to these same flames, Agni embarks on a quest for revenge, gradually becoming a legendary figure known as Fire Punch.
Although Fire Punch isn’t as refined as Chainsaw Man and other works by Tatsuki Fujimoto, its incredibly dark themes and innovative storytelling style still make it a compelling read and a strong foundation for his later success. Given the popularity of works like Look Back and Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26, it’s surprising that Fire Punch hasn’t been adapted into an anime yet.
4) Slam Dunk

Takehiko Inoue’s Slam Dunk follows Hanamichi Sakuragi, a troublemaker who pretends to be a basketball prodigy to get the attention of a girl he likes—even though he’s never played before. Once he joins his school’s basketball team, he surprisingly discovers he has some real talent, and more importantly, begins to genuinely enjoy the sport.
The original Slam Dunk anime remains incredibly popular, and while it’s still enjoyable to watch, it’s disappointing that it never animated the manga’s amazing final storyline. The recent success of The First Slam Dunk movie shows that interest in the series is still strong, making a new Slam Dunk anime a worthwhile idea.
3) Rokudenashi Blues

Masanori Morita’s Rokudenashi Blues features Taison “Tyson” Maeda, a notorious high school troublemaker with big ambitions: he wants to be a world champion boxer. Tyson isn’t familiar with the technical aspects of boxing, but that won’t stop him from pursuing his dream or defeating anyone who challenges him.
Rokudenashi Blues is a classic example of a rebellious manga, and it’s been incredibly popular – selling over 60 million copies worldwide thanks to its fantastic artwork, exciting action, and memorable characters. Despite its success, it’s only been adapted into a handful of movies, so a full anime series is long awaited.
2) Rosario + Vampire

Akihisa Ikeda’s Rosario + Vampire follows Tsukune Aono, a human who mistakenly joins a school for monsters. To stay at Yokai Academy and be with Moka Ayakashi—a sweet vampire with a hidden, aggressive side—Tsukune must hide his humanity. He also has to navigate dangerous creatures and the attention of many girls who fall for him.
The Rosario + Vampire manga took a more mature and complex turn as it went on, but the anime focused even more on fanservice and humor, and didn’t even complete the story. It’s a really poor adaptation of a great manga, and Rosario + Vampire deserves a fresh start with a new anime that does the story justice.
1) Reborn!

In the anime and manga Reborn! by Akira Amano, a timid and uncoordinated boy named Tsunayoshi “Tsuna” Sawada gets a surprising new tutor: Reborn, a baby hitman! Reborn’s mission is to transform Tsuna into the future boss of the powerful Vongola crime family, a journey filled with challenges and increasingly supernatural events for Tsuna and his friends.
Originally a huge hit in Shonen Jump, Reborn! lost some popularity after its anime was canceled. However, it still has a dedicated and passionate fanbase. Many fans believe Reborn! deserves a new anime series more than any other older Shonen Jump manga.
