As a big Xbox fan, I was already bummed to hear the Series X/S might get more expensive because of rising RAM costs. Now, things sound even worse! Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming is reporting that there are serious discussions happening within Microsoft about the future of the next generation of consoles – it’s like they might not even happen at all. He mentioned this on their podcast, and it’s really concerning to hear.

Okay, so I’m a little worried about hearing that the price of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S might go up in 2026. But apparently, that could also push back the release of the PlayStation 6 and the next Xbox! Everyone was hoping for those new consoles around 2027, but it sounds like that might not happen if things don’t change. The good news is, if the cost of RAM comes down, hopefully the new consoles won’t be too expensive when they finally do come out – at least, not more expensive than what we’re paying now.

Microsoft seems determined to create a significantly more powerful and high-quality next-generation console, so it will likely be more expensive than the Xbox Series X, even if the cost of RAM decreases before its release.

PC gaming is facing potential price increases as well. ASUS recently announced price adjustments for some of its products, which could affect the ROG Ally and Ally X handhelds. Reports suggest Nvidia and AMD might also raise GPU prices this year, impacting the RTX 50 series and Radeon RX 9000 series. Specifically, rumors indicate the RTX 5090 could jump in price from around $2,000 to a staggering $5,000.

Both GPU manufacturers have yet to confirm the same, however, so stay tuned for updates.
