I’ve been following Rosa Salazar’s career for a while now, and it’s been great to see her rise. However, not everyone immediately dies. Some individuals who are affected try to make others look at whatever is causing this, seemingly attempting to spread the problem to them.

While pregnant, Malorie struggles to survive an apocalyptic event, discovering crucial information about the dangerous creatures responsible. These entities cause madness simply by being seen – even in photographs or on camera. Because birds become disturbed by their presence, they act as an early warning system, giving the movie its title. The only reliable way to avoid being driven insane is to remain blindfolded while outdoors.

The story of Bird Box is deeply mysterious, largely because it’s shown through the eyes of people who are blindfolded and desperately trying to avoid seeing what’s hunting them. This creates a lot of uncertainty about the nature of the threat, how it affects people, and even if it’s actually real. The enigmatic creatures and the unique take on a post-apocalyptic outbreak helped make Bird Box a huge success for Netflix.

Rosa Salazar Plays Lucy in Bird Box

When the pandemic started, Malorie was five months pregnant. Her sister, Jessica, drove her to a routine prenatal appointment, but they witnessed disturbing scenes of people taking their own lives at the hospital. As they tried to escape, Jessica spotted something terrifying that caused her to lose her mind. She crashed the car, then tragically stepped in front of a truck, ending her life and leaving Malorie to face the crisis alone.

Things were completely chaotic, but thankfully, a man named Tom helped me get to a safe house with other people who had made it through. There was a whole group of us – Tom, Douglas, Greg, Cheryl, Felix, Charlie, and Lucy. Lucy was pregnant, and she and Felix were a couple.

The small group initially managed to survive together, but gradually, most of them met tragic ends. Charlie made the ultimate sacrifice, giving himself up to another group of survivors to protect his friends. Greg, attempting to determine if it was safe to view the creatures on a security camera, saw them and then took his own life.

In the end, only Tom and Malorie remained, and they had to care for two babies: Malorie’s own child, and the baby of another member of their group who had died. We never find out what happened to Felix and Lucy; after several people in the group died, they stole the car and disappeared, and their fate remains unknown.

The ending for Felix and Lucy is intentionally unclear. Director Susanne Bier revealed to People magazine that she thinks they planned to return to the grocery store and set up a home base, using the available supplies to survive.

While Netflix hasn’t confirmed a Bird Box 3, the director and cast have suggested it’s a possibility, meaning we might see Felix and Lucy’s story continue in the future.
