Netflix is Removing Another 14 Originals in January – Here’s What’s Leaving

Many people assume that shows labeled “Netflix Original” will always be available on the platform, but that’s not always true. Being an “Original” simply means Netflix either funded the show or secured the exclusive rights to stream it. Like any contract, those exclusive rights eventually expire. While some titles are fully owned by Netflix and will remain there permanently, others could be removed if Netflix doesn’t renew its streaming agreement. With the start of the new year, we’re seeing a number of these titles leaving Netflix.

This will be ongoing all year, but we’re focusing on those leaving in January. Don’t miss your chance to connect with them before they go!

It’s Sunday, January 4th, which means we’ve finished the first week of the year. On Netflix, the romantic comedy DJ Cinderella (2019) and the Italian action thriller The Beast (2020) are no longer available.

This week, several popular kids’ shows will no longer be available for streaming. That includes Captain Underpants Meg Blissmas, seasons 1-3 of The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants, and The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants in Space. All of these will be removed on Friday. Then, next Sunday, the French comedy-drama Dear Mother will also be leaving the service.

The Holiday Fun and Merry Little playlists will be taken down on the 15th of the month. Because these playlists feature content geared towards children and the holidays, they might return for the 2026 holiday season.

Later in the month, several titles will be removed from the platform. The standup comedy special Dusty Slay: Workin’ Man leaves on the 16th, followed by the French comedy special Rachid Badouri: Les fleurs du tapis on the 18th. The horror film The Open House, starring Dylan Minnette, will be removed on January 19th. The documentary Mitt, about Mitt Romney, departs on the 24th, and both seasons of the animated series Archibald’s Next Big Thing will be gone on the 26th.

What Is Coming to Netflix Throughout January?

At the start of January, new episodes of Dr. Seuss’s Red Fish, Blue Fish became available, alongside popular movies like Becky, the first two Despicable Me films, Erin Brockovich, the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, Green Room, and My Girl. All three seasons of the Kevin Bacon series The Following were also added.

This month, Netflix is adding a lot of new content! On the 7th, you can watch the stand-up special from SNL’s Marcello Hernández, called Marcello Hernández: American Boy. They’re also adding the first two seasons of Prodigal Son on the 9th, and seasons 1-3 of Veronica Mars on the 14th. Horror fans can check out the new film Bone Lake on the 15th. Later in the month, all seven seasons of Rizzoli & Isles will be available on the 20th, and the first part of Bridgerton Season 4 arrives on the 29th.
