A fantastic time travel show recently finished on Netflix after three seasons, but a new sci-fi series on Apple TV+, based on a popular book, is quickly becoming a worthy replacement.
About eight years ago, Netflix released a fantastic science fiction show that wasn’t immediately popular. But once people discovered it, it became known as one of the most intricate and captivating time travel shows in years. Thankfully, the show was also able to finish strong with a fitting and conclusive ending.
Many fans were disappointed when the show ended, leaving a gap in science fiction television. However, a lesser-known sci-fi series on Apple TV has quietly stepped in to fill that void.
Like Netflix’s Dark, Apple TV’s Dark Matter Is A Twisted Love Story In Disguise
Apple TV+’s Dark Matter and Netflix’s Dark are both complex science fiction shows that use challenging ideas to tell their stories. Dark focuses on time-travel paradoxes and how cause and effect work, while Dark Matter adds a fantastical element to quantum physics. However, beneath the complicated plots, both shows are really about complicated love stories, and how things like obsession, regret, and the decisions we make can completely change our lives.
While Dark explores the destructive potential of a destined connection, Dark Matter centers on a man who discovers he may have taken life for granted, ultimately finding his purpose and happiness with his wife in the life he originally knew.
Both of these science fiction shows feature characters who will do almost anything to save or get back the people they love, even if it means altering time and facing difficult repercussions. While Dark Matter generally tells its story in a straightforward way, especially in its first season, Dark on Netflix is much more complex and deliberately confusing. It embraces chaos to explore big questions about life and existence.
Both Dark Matter and the other show become somewhat complicated near the end, but Dark Matter feels more down-to-earth and easier to follow. Despite using different science fiction elements, both shows are fundamentally about the difficulties of love, the impact of our decisions, and the lasting effects of holding onto the past.
Dark Can Never Be Replaced, But Dark Matter Fills The Void It Left Behind
The show Dark was so innovative in how it connected time travel, paradoxes, and family history that it nearly perfected the genre. Because of this, it’s not really fair to compare Apple TV+’s Dark Matter to it. Dark Matter is still in its first season and hasn’t had the chance to fully develop its concepts yet.
Even though it’s hard to follow a show as brilliant as Netflix’s Dark, Apple TV+’s Dark Matter is a solid science fiction series that fans of Dark are likely to enjoy. It probably won’t reach the same level of genius, but it’s a good option for those missing that show.
