Christopher Nolan’s new epic film, The Odyssey, is incredibly ambitious in scope. Actor Benny Safdie, who plays Agamemnon in the movie, shared details about the extensive shoot with Project Big Screen. He’s part of a remarkable cast that includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Charlize Theron as Circe, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, and Jon Bernthal as Menelaus. Filming took place over several months, from February to August 2025, and spanned diverse locations including Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Iceland, and Ireland.
Honestly, being on set with him was amazing. The whole production was just massive – you wouldn’t believe how big! I really love learning from him and just being around his creative process, it’s fantastic. He even shared a story about a big mistake I made while we were filming in North Africa, which was pretty humbling!
I was in Morocco and really wanted to explore. On my day off, I hired a local guide to show me around. I tried the food and drinks, and I remember asking Chris about the water. He warned me not to drink it, which was a bit of a surprise.
I had a feeling something was happening when I first realized it. I remember going to the doctor, and when they listened to my stomach with the stethoscope, it was clear something was definitely happening inside!
Director Safdie, known for occasionally directing himself and recently working with Dwayne Johnson on The Smashing Machine, shared with GamesRadar+ how Matt Damon maintained an amazing attitude throughout the demanding six-month shoot. Safdie described checking in on Damon and seeing him go through a grueling process, yet always remaining positive and enthusiastic. According to Safdie, Damon consistently expressed that the project was fantastic.
‘The Odyssey’ Felt Like ‘School’ to One of the Epic’s Ensemble Cast

It seems my former co-star from The Odyssey, James Remar – who recently played Lieutenant General Francis Shaw in IT: Welcome to Derry – felt like he was back in school while working with the Oppenheimer cast and crew, enjoying the reunion.

I got to work with Matt Damon again,” he said. While his role hasn’t been announced yet, they previously acted together in Oppenheimer, so it felt comfortable and easy. He joked it was like reuniting with a friend after a break, and for some of the cast, it felt like they’d known each other for years.
The atmosphere on set was incredibly warm and collaborative, like a close-knit family. There was a deep level of respect among everyone involved – a truly well-chosen and professional group. Everyone remained focused and dedicated to the work, understanding that Christopher Nolan has a clear vision and that every detail matters. It was all business – no distractions, no unprofessional behavior, and everyone was fully engaged and committed to delivering their best performance.
