Harlan Coben‘s latest thriller series, Run Away, is proving to be very popular on Netflix, following the success of his previous shows for the platform. In fact, it’s now surpassed Stranger Things in a significant ranking. Coben is known for writing novels that are adapted into hit limited series on Netflix, with Fool Me Once being another major success story.
Fool Me Once quickly became a hit on Netflix, attracting 98.2 million viewers in its first three months and ranking as the 10th most-watched English-language series ever on the platform. Netflix also features other popular thrillers by Harlan Coben, like The Innocent, Safe, and The Stranger, all available under “The Harlan Coben Collection.” Now, the cast of Run Away is headlining a new crime thriller that has become Netflix’s most-watched series.
According to data from FlixPatrol, the new series Run Away is now the most popular show on Netflix in the U.S., surpassing Stranger Things. Run Away, an 8-episode crime thriller, launched on January 1st, just after the final episode of Stranger Things became available. By January 4th, it had already become more-watched than Netflix’s hit show.
Globally, the picture is a bit different. Although Run Away is currently number one in the U.S., the crime thriller remains the second most popular show on Netflix worldwide, behind Stranger Things. However, Run Away is also the top show in several countries, mirroring its success in the United States.
Netflix’s show Run Away is currently the most popular TV show in 37 countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the UK, and the US. However, the final season of Stranger Things has received mixed reviews – it currently has a 56% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and many viewers disliked the ending for Millie Bobby Brown’s character, Eleven. This could lead to changes in Netflix’s global top ten list soon.
According to data from FlixPatrol, the popularity of Run Away and Stranger Things on Netflix isn’t actually that different. Stranger Things currently leads with 837 points, while Run Away has 739. FlixPatrol calculates these scores by awarding points based on each show’s ranking in the top ten lists of countries around the world.
Both Run Away and Stranger Things are available on Netflix. Run Away is based on a Harlan Coben novel and is planned as a limited series – just one season. Stranger Things recently concluded its five-season run, but Netflix is creating two new shows to expand the story. The first of these, an animated series called Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, is scheduled to be released in 2026, along with Run Away.
