As a huge fan of the original Silent Hill, I was definitely a little worried when Konami let Bloober Team take over. But wow, the Silent Hill 2 remake really blew everyone away and brought the series back to life! Now they’re tackling the first game, which is amazing news. And with their own games like Layers of Fear and the new Cronos: The New Dawn being so good, it’s got me incredibly hyped to see what Bloober Team does next for the horror genre. It feels like a really exciting time to be a fan!
Fans recently noticed that Bloober Team trademarked a new title, Onyx: The Dark Grip. This name follows the same pattern as their latest game, Cronos: The New Dawn, suggesting it could be a sequel or additional content for the survival horror game. Bloober Team has already confirmed they are working on two projects – one for multiple platforms and another exclusive to the Nintendo Switch.
Good news for fans – Bloober Team will be making an announcement on February 15th! While they haven’t said what it will be, it’s likely related to one of their existing projects, or possibly a first look at a remake of Silent Hill. The original Silent Hill came out on February 23rd, 1999, and some fans think the timing is intentional. They’re excited to see if this classic game will get a modern HD update.
Okay, so I’ve been thinking about what this new game could be, and one idea is that it’s something totally fresh. The timing, right after Valentine’s Day, makes me wonder if it might be a co-op horror game. We’ve seen Little Nightmares 3 and Reanimal both go that route with two-player survival horror, and maybe it’s just a coincidence, but it’s an interesting thought. It would definitely set it apart from Resident Evil Requiem, which is the newest Resident Evil game, and give us a different kind of gameplay experience.
Honestly, until Bloober Team or Konami actually tells us what’s going on, it’s all just speculation! This name, Onyx: The Dark Grip, is super vague – it could be anything! But, knowing Bloober Team’s history, I’m pretty confident it’ll be some kind of horror game, at least. That’s the one thing I feel safe guessing!
It’s become really difficult for game developers to keep new games under wraps these days. Fans are incredibly dedicated to finding out about upcoming projects, and leaks, rumors, and data mining often reveal details before the official announcements. Sometimes it’s just a simple name that gets out, but recently, we’ve seen leaks that revealed significant information about multiple games, like the Pokemon leak.
