2025 Reunited Marvel and DC Comics, But They Need to Go Bigger

It was great to see Marvel and DC Comics team up again, but future collaborations need to be more ambitious. For those new to comics, you might not remember when these two publishers regularly crossed over their universes. This used to happen fairly often, but stopped after the JLA/Avengers series, resulting in a gap of many years. However, in 2025, Marvel and DC surprised everyone by working together again, releasing a series of special issues featuring Batman and Deadpool.

I really enjoyed the recent Marvel and DC crossover event, especially how each company released a separate one-shot comic. The main story featuring Batman and Deadpool was great, and I also liked the smaller stories pairing up other characters like Green Arrow and Daredevil. While this year’s crossover gave us some fun moments, it felt like Marvel and DC weren’t fully committing. I’m happy they collaborated, but if this is the beginning of a new partnership, I hope they take even bigger risks and go all out in the future.

Forget One-Shots, We Need a Marvel/DC Event

During the summer of 2025, Marvel and DC surprised everyone by teaming up again after twenty years with both Deadpool/Batman and Batman/Deadpool specials – and they were both fantastic! Beyond those, we saw several other exciting crossovers, like Captain America with Wonder Woman and Ms. Marvel with Static. I initially thought these were just one-time events, but we’ve continued to get new stories, including digital-exclusive crossovers like Thor/Shazam!, and there’s even a Superman/Spider-Man team-up on the way.

I was genuinely glad to see these stories and it’s great that Marvel and DC are working together again. However, after all the hype, they didn’t really make a lasting impact – the excitement faded quickly after release. While we know more stories are coming, we need something more substantial than just occasional short stories. What we really need is a large-scale, epic crossover event, similar to the ones Marvel and DC used to create.

Standalone stories have limitations, but a crossover event – like the classic Marvel vs. DC or JLA/Avengers – could be truly amazing. It would allow for a complex, engaging story drawing on decades of history from both universes. Both Marvel and DC have evolved significantly in the last twenty years, and a large-scale crossover would be a fantastic way to showcase that growth, letting all their most popular characters interact and shine.

2026 is the Best Time for a DC/Marvel Event

Next year, 2026, will be the 30th anniversary of the popular Marvel vs. DC event. Both Marvel and DC typically celebrate big anniversaries of their major stories, and 2026 also marks 30 years since the introduction of the Amalgam Universe – a unique world combining characters from both companies. While there’s no official announcement, a follow-up to DC vs. Marvel and the Amalgam Comics series would be a huge and exciting project for either publisher.

I’m really pleased with how things are progressing. The simple fact that Marvel and DC are collaborating is a huge success. It’s been twenty years since we’ve seen a major crossover between these two publishers, and that’s left a lot of great story ideas unexplored. There’s so much talent among today’s writers and artists who could create something truly special with a large-scale Marvel and DC event. While I appreciate the current one-shot comics, I can’t help but dream about the possibilities of a full-blown event.

It’s early in the year, and I expect Marvel and DC to announce some exciting projects soon. Last year, we were surprised by their collaboration, and now it seems like bigger events are a real possibility. I’m really pleased with what the publishers have been doing and I’m hoping they’ll build on that with a large-scale crossover, not just individual issues. Whatever Marvel and DC have planned, I hope it surpasses everything we see in 2026.
