A new trailer reveals a dark take on a classic hero, similar to the movie Logan. Starring the actor known for Deadpool & Wolverine and X-Men, the film shows a reimagining of a famous outlaw as he confronts a life filled with crime and violence.
Directed by the creators of A Quiet Place: Day One and Pig, The Death of Robin Hood stars Jodie Comer (known for Killing Eve and 28 Years Later), Bill Skarsgård (from Nosferatu and IT: Welcome to Derry), Murray Bartlett (The Last of Us), and Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place), along with Hugh Jackman.
As a film fan, I’m really intrigued by this new take on Robin Hood. Forget the classic, brightly-colored hero – Hugh Jackman’s version looks much more… weathered. He’s sporting long grey hair and a beard, a real contrast to the Robin Hood most of us picture. Interestingly, the older stories actually portrayed him as a much tougher, more ruthless character, and this film seems to be leaning into that. The Death of Robin Hood focuses on an older, battle-worn Robin who, after years of fighting, is offered a chance to find some kind of peace – or ‘salvation,’ as the official description puts it. I’m definitely curious to see where they go with this!
This movie offers a grittier, more complex take on the Robin Hood story. It follows the legendary hero as he struggles with the consequences of his violent past. Wounded and alone, he’s taken in by a mysterious woman who offers him a path to redemption.
This Robin Hood Has All the Scars & Regret That Come From a Life Fighting Injustice
A24 will distribute the thriller The Death of Robin Hood, with a planned release in 2026. Hugh Jackman recently shared that the film will explore the Robin Hood legend and the ways power can be wielded for both positive and negative purposes.
What really stands out about Mike’s take on Robin Hood is the story’s strength and its exploration of how power can be used for both positive and negative purposes. This Robin Hood feels incredibly real – flawed, scarred, and deeply human, with both pain and love shaping his journey. It’s a story with genuine emotional weight, and I find it both beautiful and relatable.
Director Michael Sarnoski has been developing a new, darker take on the Robin Hood story for a long time – even before he started working on the 2024 horror film, A Quiet Place: Day One. This project is something he’s very passionate about.
I finished writing that script just before starting work on A Quiet Place. I decided that if I took on a large studio film, I also wanted to have a smaller, personal project I could work on in my spare time. So, I wrote it beforehand and have been developing it gradually ever since.
