I was absolutely shocked to see John Sugden, or Oliver Farnworth as some of us know him, meet his end! As one of Emmerdale’s biggest baddies, I never expected his story to end during that special ‘Corriedale’ crossover episode with Coronation Street. It was a truly unexpected twist!
After a long period of fear and oppression, his rule is likely finished, though significant problems will likely follow.
Okay, so you won’t believe what happened! John’s husband, Aaron Dingle – played by Danny Miller, by the way – completely flipped the script. He actually held a gun on John and made him drive himself down to Hotten Police Station to turn himself in. Seriously, it was a total shocker!
John refused to surrender and struggled to grab the weapon, losing control of the vehicle and colliding with Corrie’s Swain family.
He quickly ran into the woods, where he attacked and rendered Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) unconscious before shooting Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley). Sadly, he didn’t survive the episode and was found dead.

Sister Vic (Isabel Hodgins) was stood over his body, clearly responsible for the act.
This episode included flashbacks that helped explain past events. Vic received a visit from John, who told her and her son, Harry, to leave the country with him and Aaron. He tried to drug them both while he finalized his plan.
Vic tried to escape, but he caught her and gave her an injection in the neck. After she regained consciousness, she went to the woods to find him.

Okay, so picture this: she finally corners him, and things immediately turn physical. He tries to shut her up, and in the heat of the moment, she lashes out with a knife, hitting him in the neck. Afterwards, totally panicked, she tries to cover her tracks – she cleans the knife and then, in a really desperate move, plants it in his hand to make it look like he attacked her. It’s a classic noir setup, honestly.
Unbeknownst to her, Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was secretly watching and filming everything that was happening.
Will he use this information against her?
