The “doomsday land defense adventure” game, MOCHI-O, will be released on PC through Steam on January 19th, according to publisher Kodansha and developer Zxima. Versions for iOS and Android are also in the works, but a release date for those hasn’t been announced yet.
Developer Zximia describes MOCHI-O as a funny and cheerful game about the apocalypse, with a uniquely cozy feel. Despite its cute appearance, the game offers surprisingly complex gameplay. The way you care for your characters opens up lots of different strategies and ways to play, making it enjoyable for both people new to the tower defense genre and longtime fans.
Here is an overview of the game, via Kodansha:
Get to know MOCHI-O, an adorable system designed to save the world from disaster! You’ll nurture this powerful weapon by giving it encouragement, affection, and plenty of seeds, helping it grow stronger in battle. It’s a heartwarming story with a playful tone, offering a bit of levity even after the end of the world.
Protect the nation by unleashing chaos on enemies! Control a cute hamster named Mochi-O and use its powerful, ever-changing abilities to destroy incoming ships in this exciting tower defense game.
Equip MOCHI-O with different weapons and skills, and collect seeds from defeated enemies to earn experience points. Gather enough seeds to upgrade MOCHI-O’s core stats – such as how quickly it shoots, its chance for critical hits, attack distance, and ability cooldowns – and tailor the gameplay to your liking.
The closer you get to MOCHI-O, the stronger it becomes! Show MOCHI-O affection with pets and food, and customize its room to build a strong bond. This will unlock new weapons and upgrades.
