The popular shooter Battlefield 6 has seen a significant drop in players. Not only has it lost most of its initial audience – retaining only about 16% of its peak Steam players – but it recently hit a new low, with just 94,088 players online in the last 24 hours, according to SteamDB. This is the first time the game has fallen below 100,000 concurrent players on the platform.
While the game isn’t failing, it’s definitely facing challenges, especially if its console community remains strong. Player feedback on Steam is mixed, with only 68% of over 243,000 reviews being positive. More recent reviews paint an even clearer picture – only 53% of the last 17,000-plus reviews recommend the game.
Beyond concerns about the game trying to make too much money, many players are frustrated with the lack of dedicated servers, poor online connection quality, and buggy updates. One review asks, “How can DICE release updates like this to people who paid for the game? Is there any quality control happening?” Another player points out ongoing technical problems, like inaccurate hit detection, which has been an issue for a long time and seems to get worse with each update that’s supposed to fix it.
One player described the game as a frustrating experience, saying it felt like a damaging relationship and they’d stop playing if things didn’t get better. While they enjoyed the core gameplay, they strongly criticized how slowly you progress, the battle pass system, and the use of AI-created content. Other common complaints included the small map sizes in Conquest mode and the absence of naval battles, a feature found in the free game RedSec.
Battlefield Studios hasn’t shared its plans for updates this year, with the final major update for Season 1 arriving in December 2025. While we wait for more details, many players are currently enjoying ARC Raiders, which recently surpassed 12 million copies sold.
