The selection of Cartoon Network shows available on HBO Max is continuing to decrease. What was once a popular destination for animation lovers has become much smaller in recent years, as Warner Bros. Discovery prioritizes shows for adults and families. Another Cartoon Network series will soon be removed from the streaming service.
If you’re an HBO Max subscriber, you only have until January 13th to watch Craig Before the Creek. This 2023 movie, which serves as a prequel to the Craig of the Creek series, follows Craig as he moves to a new town and embarks on an adventure in the Creek to find the Wishmaker – a magical fortune teller that can make any wish come true. He makes new friends and tries to outsmart a group of pirates along the way, with Philip Solomon returning to voice the character of Craig.
Craig Before the Creek Is a Satisfying Prequel
If you enjoyed the Craig of the Creek series, you’ll likely love Craig Before the Creek. This movie is a wonderful origin story that perfectly captures the heart and feel of the original show, and it smoothly sets the stage for everything that follows. With the same beautiful animation and vibrant colors fans adore, the movie expands on the Creek world, revealing the story behind a legendary treasure and the pirates who seek it – all while celebrating the joys of childhood. While the movie has a few moments that feel rushed or don’t quite connect, it’s a fantastic adventure that both longtime viewers and new audiences will enjoy, and it serves as a satisfying conclusion to the series.
I recently watched Craig Before the Creek, and while it didn’t get a ton of widespread attention on sites like Rotten Tomatoes, I really enjoyed it! Dillon Gonzalez from Geek Vibes Nation called it a genuinely fun adventure that actually tugged at my heartstrings. He thought it was a great way to either jump into the series or for longtime fans to revisit the world. And Jon Mendelsohn at CBR described it as a lighthearted, easy watch – exactly what you need if you’ve been missing this show!
Where to Stream Craig Before the Creek After It Leaves HBO Max?
The movie Craig Before the Creek is leaving HBO Max on January 13th, but you’ll still be able to watch it on Hulu and Disney+. It’s also available to rent or buy digitally.
This Cartoon Network show is the newest title removed from HBO Max, following other classic shows from the early 2000s that were taken down over the summer. Currently, HBO Max only offers Cartoon Network shows from 2017 onward. While Craig of the Creek isn’t completely gone, only seasons 4 through 6 are available to stream. The first three seasons were removed from the platform in late 2024, despite the show running for a total of six seasons from 2017 to 2025.
