Boy Meets World captivated a generation by following Cory, Topanga, and Shawn as they navigated high school, college, and life—and viewers grew up alongside them. Throughout the series, many memorable characters were introduced, and 28 years ago, an episode surprisingly revealed a new depth to a key character, breaking a pattern that had lasted for 80 episodes.
A key part of the show was the character of George Feeny, Cory’s longtime teacher and next-door neighbor. For the first 80 episodes, viewers never saw inside Feeny’s house or learned much about his life outside of school. That changed in a season four episode called B & B’s B’n B, which finally gave fans a look at his home and personal life – and it only happened once throughout the entire series.
How Boy Meets World Changed The Series Formula With B & B’s B’n B

The thirteenth episode of Boy Meets World‘s fourth season, titled “B & B’s B’n B,” began with an interesting idea: Mr. Feeny needed someone to housesit while he was away in Boston, and he asked Cory to do it. Before this, viewers had only briefly seen the inside of Feeny’s home – in the very first episode, Cory had peeked inside from his treehouse.
Everything shifted when Cory and I finally had free rein of Mr. Feeny’s house – and that meant Shawn did too, of course! It didn’t take long for him to come up with this crazy plan to turn the place into a bed and breakfast for a school project. The whole thing was a disaster – in the best way possible – as we frantically tried to get everything ready before Feeny got back. Honestly, watching us scramble was pure comedy gold!
A significant change in Mr. Feeny’s character came with the reveal of his yearly trips to Boston. It turned out he wasn’t going for work or education, but to visit someone he was romantically involved with. Every year, he and this person would repeat a bittersweet tradition: confessing their feelings and asking the other to move, knowing the answer would always be no. They cherished the ritual despite not being willing to disrupt their established lives.
For the first time, we see a personal side of Mr. Feeny, revealing his vulnerability and strengthening his connection with Eric. Eric chooses to stay and support Feeny instead of going out with a woman he finds attractive. These moments of Feeny showing vulnerability were rare, but always powerful.
