The Masked Singer Reveals First Celebrity of Season 14

Right off the bat, The Masked Singer is saying goodbye to one of baseball’s biggest stars.

During the premiere of the show’s fourteenth season, the unusually tall costumed performer known as Googly Eyes quickly caught everyone’s attention. Judge Jenny McCarthy immediately guessed that an athlete was inside the costume due to its height.

Googly Eyes boasted about his qualifications in a pre-recorded video shown on January 7th, claiming he’s a huge star and a natural leader with a proven track record of turning failing businesses around.

While making photocopies of a poppyseed bagel, the athlete mentioned a few famous people he knew, including Kevin Bacon, John Krasinski, and Chris Tucker.

He confidently stated he was the right person for the job, adding that he’d be essential to making the season a big success, all while standing near a bowl of cake batter.

He followed up with a hilarious performance of DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s 2013 song, “Turn Down for What,” which had the judges in stitches. Rita Ora was so surprised she said, “I have no idea who that was! What just happened?”

Cat Witch won against Googly Eyes with a performance of “Abracadabra” inspired by Lady Gaga. The judges were surprised when Googly Eyes ended up in the bottom five contestants.

In the end, Googly Eyes was eliminated from the competition, as the judges figured out who was inside the elaborate costume.

Everyone correctly identified the masked celebrity as a baseball player, and many thought their accent gave them away. Jenny guessed Derek Jeter, while Robin Thicke first said Manny Ramirez, then quickly changed to Pedro Martinez, leaving Rita to choose Manny. However, it was Ken Jeong who got it right, revealing the masked singer to be David Ortiz, also known as Big Papi, who was a key player in the Boston Red Sox’s 2004 World Series victory – their first championship win in 86 years.

After being revealed, David told the audience his costume was incredibly physically demanding. He joked that he wouldn’t need to go to the gym for a month because of it.

Honestly, it was just a blast! He kept saying how much fun it was, and he even joked that he could sing ‘Turn Down for What’ all day long – and I totally believe him! It’s such an energy-filled song, and you can tell he genuinely loves performing it. As a fan, it’s awesome to see him having that much fun on stage.

The World Series winners made sure to deliver one of their famous quotes before leaving the stage.

“I got something for them,” he began, “daaaaaaaaaaa Yankees lose!”

As a fan of The Masked Singer, I have to say this first episode was full of surprises! Not only did we say goodbye to David, but it looks like The Croissants will also be going home – though we’ll have to tune in next week to see their reveal. If you don’t want to miss a moment, remember to watch The Masked Singer Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on Fox!
