Since a Nintendo Direct isn’t happening soon, we’ve gotten a detailed, almost six-minute trailer for Camelot’s next Mario Tennis game. While it might be an exaggeration to call it the most content-rich game ever, Mario Tennis Fever is certainly making a strong impression with its 38 playable characters and the new Fever Rackets feature.
The game features a wide range of characters, including favorites like Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Daisy, and Wario, as well as newcomers such as Kamek and Baby Waluigi. Players who have enjoyed past games will quickly pick up the controls, which include spins, slices, and lobs, and work seamlessly with the Joy-Con 2 controllers.
Fever Rackets add a whole new level of excitement to the game with their special abilities. Players can use these rackets to create hazards like exploding lava, slippery ice, or sticky sludge, giving them plenty of ways to disrupt their opponents. I especially like the Shadow Racket, which lets you create a temporary clone of yourself, effectively turning a one-on-one match into a two-on-one advantage.
Fever Shots can be risky. They only work if they bounce before hitting an opponent, which means enemies can hit them back at you. This keeps the pressure on, and taking too many hits can briefly knock you out.
If you prefer classic tennis gameplay, you’re in luck! Mario Tennis Fever will be released for Nintendo Switch 2 on February 12th.
