Marvel’s Blade Gets a Devastating Update (But the New Rumor May Be Even Better)

Following the huge success of Avengers: Endgame in 2019, Marvel Studios thrilled fans at a convention by announcing a new Blade movie. Oscar winner Mahershala Ali was cast as the lead, instantly making it a highly anticipated project. However, years later, the film still hasn’t been released. It’s gone through several changes in directors and writers as Marvel works to get the story right. While Marvel’s Kevin Feige still believes Blade will eventually happen, many fans now think it’s been cancelled due to the long delay. Recent rumors suggest this might be true, though some remain hopeful.

During a recent episode of the podcast The Hot Mic, Jeff Sneider, a well-connected industry source, reported a rumor that Marvel has cancelled plans for a standalone Blade movie. Instead, the studio is now apparently considering introducing the character, known as the Daywalker, within a Midnight Sons film. According to Sneider, Blade won’t get his own movie initially, but will first appear as part of the Midnight Sons team. It’s important to remember that this information is currently just a rumor and hasn’t been officially confirmed.

A Midnight Sons Movie Might Be What’s Best for the MCU

Given that there have already been three successful Blade films with Wesley Snipes, the recent news about the Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot is disheartening. Fans are puzzled why this project is proving so difficult, considering the original concept worked well before. It seems like making an exciting action movie with a talented actor like Ali shouldn’t be this challenging, but Marvel Studios is facing significant obstacles. While it’s frustrating, shifting the focus to Midnight Sons might be the best path forward for the franchise.

Over the years, many different heroes have been part of the Midnight Sons team in Marvel comics. We’ve already seen some of them – like Doctor Strange, Wong, and Moon Knight – in Marvel movies and shows. A Midnight Sons movie could not only introduce Blade, as Ali is set to play, but also bring back characters fans haven’t seen in a while and continue their storylines. Ever since his show premiered in 2022, people have been wondering what’s next for Moon Knight. If Marvel doesn’t plan another season of his show, a Midnight Sons movie could be a way to bring Oscar Isaac back to the role and explore the character further.

If the rumors are correct, the move from a Blade movie to a Midnight Sons team-up could be Marvel’s way of adjusting its strategy. After the inconsistent quality of the Multiverse Saga, Kevin Feige is planning to release fewer movies and shows each year. With fewer projects overall, it’s harder to give every character their own moment to shine. A team-up movie like Midnight Sons might be a more efficient way to introduce and feature multiple characters without overwhelming audiences with too much content.

As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve always loved their team-up movies – things like The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy really work because of the character dynamics. That’s why I’m excited about Midnight Sons; it could be a great way to give Blade some interesting interactions with other supernatural heroes. Honestly, it feels like this project could really revitalize Mahershala Ali’s time in the MCU. If the movie does well – and I’m hoping it will – it could open the door for more Blade films and finally give Ali the chance to lead a big blockbuster he deserves. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
