Milo Manheim, known for his role in the Disney Channel’s Zombies and for finishing as a runner-up on Dancing With The Stars, is returning to Disney with the upcoming live-action remake of Tangled. His former Dancing With The Stars partner, Witney Carson, shared a sweet reaction to the news of his casting.
Since they parted ways in 2018 after their buzz-worthy run together on DWTS, the former dance partners have kept busy. This past year alone, Manheim starred in Little Shop of Horrors Off-Broadway and filmed Season 3 of School Spirits, which is set to premiere later this month on the 2026 TV schedule. Meanwhile, Carson finally won another Mirrorball Trophy alongside her Season 34 DWTS partner, Robert Irwin. Manheim and Carson are still in touch, though, and the pro-dancer told EW she reached out to the Zombies actor to share her excitement about his role in the upcoming Disney film:
I’m completely focused on Milo’s performance as Flynn Rider in Tangled, and I couldn’t be more excited! I just sent him a congratulatory text – I’m incredibly proud of everything he’s accomplished so early in his career, and it’s amazing to see him doing so well.
Anyone who watches Dancing With The Stars knows it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Often, the celebrity and professional dancer become very close during training. Milo Manheim, known for his role in The Prom Pact, was on DWTS in 2018 at just 17 years old. It’s therefore not surprising that his mother feels like a proud parent to him now that he’s 24.
Even at a young age, Manheim has a really impressive background, showcasing his talent as both an actor and singer, as Carson noted. And his time on Dancing With The Stars really highlighted how likeable he is. After watching this video, it’s clear he has all the qualities of a star!
The runners-up from Season 27 of Dancing with the Stars really resemble Flynn Rider and Rapunzel, especially with Carson’s long blonde hair. It’s surprising they didn’t do a Tangledthemed performance on Disney night—choosing The Incredibles* instead felt like a missed chance.
The actor known for his work in Thanksgiving didn’t miss a chance when he was offered the live-action role of Flynn Rider. He really wanted the part, and it definitely helped that fans online were campaigning for him! While he’s a good match in appearance and personality, it will be interesting to see him play a character outside of the typical high school student roles he’s known for. Now 24, with a more mature look and recent Broadway experience, he’s well-suited to bring this popular Disney prince to life.

Along with the news that actor Milo Manheim will play Flynn Rider, the live-action Tangled has also cast Teagan Croft as Rapunzel. Both actors were considered for these roles last year, and many fans hoped Manheim would get the part. As a Tangled enthusiast, I’m now hoping they’ll confirm Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel!
There was talk of Scarlett Johansson possibly playing the villain in the live-action Tangled, but I actually preferred Kathryn Hahn for the role. She already showed she could play a similar character – like Mother Gothel – in Agatha All Along. Now, reports say Hahn is in discussions to play Rapunzel’s mother, and it would be perfect casting, especially considering her previous work.
I’m as thrilled as Witney Carson to see Milo Manheim play Flynn Rider, though we’ll have to be patient to see his version of that famous smolder! Production on the live-action Disney movie hasn’t begun, so it won’t be released in 2026. Until then, you can rewatch the original Tangled on Disney+. And if you’re really eager for the remake, you could always print out pictures of Milo Manheim and Teagan Croft and tape them to your screen while you watch!
