Hajime Isayama’s popular manga, Attack on Titan, finished in 2021 after being published for 12 years. An anime series based on the manga first came out in 2013, created by WIT Studio, and quickly gained a devoted following with its compelling and heartbreaking story. While some fans were initially unhappy with how the manga ended, the anime production had already switched studios after Season 3. WIT Studio couldn’t keep up with the demanding schedule, so MAPPA – known for Jujutsu Kaisen – took over. MAPPA continued the anime with even better animation, making the series even more popular. The final season jumps ahead in time and follows Eren as he grapples with the harsh realities of the world.
The fourth and final season of the series aired between 2020 and 2023, split into two parts with two additional special episodes. While the main story has concluded in both the anime and manga, the franchise continues to release new content. In 2026, a remastered version of Attack on Titan: The Final Chapter – The Last Attack will be shown in Dolby Cinema theaters starting January 9th. Director Yuichiro Hayashi, along with the voice actors for Eren Yeager (Yuki Kaji), Mikasa Ackerman (Yui Ishikawa), and Armin Arlet (Marina Inoue), attended the premiere event, where Yuki Kaji playfully quipped about the series being a bit of a trick.
Yuki Kaji Unveils The Scam of Attack on Titan’s Anime Will Be Repeated

According to Oricon, Kaji expressed his belief that the cycle of expanding and concluding the Attack on Titan series would likely continue. He playfully urged fans to simply enjoy the ride and expressed his hope to connect with them again, even far into the future. He finished with a rallying cry to keep fighting and requested continued support for Attack on Titan.
The voice actor clearly delivered the line as a joke, reflecting the enduring popularity of the story – audiences keep coming back to see it again and again. Initial disappointment with the ending faded thanks to the studio’s excellent adaptation and some adjustments made with input from the original creator, Isayama. He actively participated in the production to ensure it resonated with fans. This led to a huge surge in the series’ popularity, culminating in the first-ever Global Impact Award at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards on May 25th.
The story concludes with a hint that the cycle could continue, but currently, the creator, Hajime Isayama, has no plans for a sequel or spin-off. He shared a message with fans stating he’s not working on any new projects, feeling he can’t replicate the success of Attack on Titan. Isayama experienced significant stress and burnout while creating the manga, constantly battling deadlines. His message suggests he’s taking a break, having given everything he had to Attack on Titan and feeling creatively drained.
