Teyana Taylor certainly made it at the 2026 Golden Globes.
The actress from One Battle After Another won the award for Best Supporting Female Actor in a Motion Picture at the ceremony on January 11th. She was chosen over fellow nominees Ariana Grande (Wicked: For Good), Amy Madigan (Weapons), Emily Blunt (The Smashing Machine), Elle Fanning (Sentimental Value), and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value).
Teyana was deeply moved when she accepted her award on stage at the Beverly Hilton, during a ceremony hosted by Nikki Glaser. (You can find a complete list of winners here.)
Fighting back tears, the 35-year-old admitted she almost didn’t prepare a speech. She then called out the names of her children, 10-year-old Junie Tayla and 5-year-old Rue Rose, and playfully scolded them: “Y’all better put down those phones and watch me right now!”
Teyana also shared a heartfelt message with other women of color and young girls watching the show.
She spoke from the stage, declaring that kindness isnât a weakness, and even in loss, thereâs no shame. We shouldnât feel like weâre too much, or that we need to ask for permission to be ourselves. We have the right to be present and valued everywhere, and our aspirations deserve to be nurtured.
This victory was significant for the singer, who had previously discussed her close collaboration with director Paul Thomas Anderson in developing her character, Perfidia Beverly Hills, and specifically portraying the challenges of postpartum depression.
She told Variety in an interview on January 3rd that the subject isn’t discussed often enough, and she felt both nervous and eager to explore it more deeply.

Even though viewers often criticized her character, Teyana was happy to take on the role.
She often makes choices that people disagree with, but she’s always authentically herself and firmly committed to her beliefs, even when those beliefs are things others might not have been brave enough to do.
Teyana explained that women are often told to be less assertive, to not appear too confident. She sees this character as a defiant response to that pressure â a woman refusing to be silenced or controlled, and rejecting traditional expectations.
