Avengers: Doomsday Predicted to Have Major Character Deaths

We’re just under a full year out, and Avengers: Doomsday is already shaping up to be one of the MCU’s darkest crossovers yet. Following a collection of fairly ominous teasers with somber dialogue and references to endings rather than beginnings, I think we should prepare to lose some pretty big names.

After numerous complaints that the concept of the multiverse has erased consequences, Avengers: Doomsday’s teasers do feel like a direct counterargument. Instead, it’s likely because of the multiverse’s imminent collapse that the MCU will soon lose some of its most popular heroes in the wake of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars (permanently).

“Death Comes For Us All” – Avengers: Doomsday’s Teasers Aren’t Very Happy

Most of the previews for Avengers: Doomsday have focused on the themes of death and the coming disaster. The only exception was the initial teaser featuring Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, which confirmed his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and introduced his baby son. Even that teaser hints at what Captain America could lose.

The trailer for the new Thor movie shows the god praying he’ll make it through one final battle, suggesting he fears he might not survive.

The new teaser for the X-Men is particularly somber. Magneto and Xavier discuss the inevitability of death, wondering what their legacies will be. The scenes depict a devastated world, hinting that several X-Men have died. The Xavier Mansion is in ruins, mutant-hunting Sentinels loom in the background, and Cyclops appears defeated and on his knees.

I’ve been following the latest hints, and even the recent trailer featuring Wakanda, Talokan, and the Fantastic Four seems to be all about preparing for something beyond this life. It really feels like they’re building towards a huge, world-ending threat – maybe even something involving different universes colliding!

Because of the constant sense of impending disaster, it’s difficult to imagine that Avengers: Doomsday won’t have lasting, significant effects. This is especially true considering Marvel’s known plans for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after this event, including the Secret Wars storyline.

We’re Going To Lose Some Big Names By The End of the Multiverse Saga

Rumors suggest the next two Avengers films will significantly reshape the Marvel Cinematic Universe, going further than just concluding the current storyline. Because of this, it seems probable that Marvel Studios will be more open to permanently removing characters from future films, either through death or retirement.

Although many fans speculate Thor could be leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recent news about Sebastian Stan joining the cast of The Batman – Part II suggests Bucky Barnes might also be on his way out.

With Marvel Studios planning to introduce the X-Men after the Secret Wars movie, it seems likely that the actors who played the X-Men in the previous Fox films will be finishing their roles. This suggests their current portrayal of the characters is coming to an end.

We’re seeing familiar characters return, like Chris Evans as Captain America and Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. However, I believe the Russo Brothers understand that the next Avengers films need to have lasting impact to feel like essential events. This will only happen if the risks feel genuine and losses are permanent.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to release on December 18th from Marvel Studios.
