Where Was Rose Byrne’s Husband Bobby Cannavale During Golden Globes

Bobby Cannavale might be kicking himself now.

Paul Rudd, known for his role in Ant-Man, wasn’t able to celebrate with his wife, Rose Byrne, when she won an award at the 2026 Golden Globes on January 11th, due to a surprising circumstance.

After winning Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her performance in If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You, Byrne playfully called out Cannavale for not being there.

She expressed her gratitude to her husband, Bobby Cannavale, explaining he couldn’t attend the event because he was at a reptile show in New Jersey to pick up a new pet – a bearded dragon. She affectionately thanked him, saying, ‘Thank you, baby.’ (You can find a complete list of winners here.)

Kristen Wiig, known for her role in Bridesmaids, playfully mentioned her boyfriend Mark Cannavale’s previous relationship, as the two have been together since 2012.

The 46-year-old shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on January 8th that he unfortunately couldn’t attend, which she said was disappointing. She added that the expo is the best place to be.

Still, Byrne said she’s “on board” with getting a new pet for their sons Rocco, 9, and Rafael, 8.

She said she thought they were beautiful, but added with a smile that she heard they eat live crickets. A friend of hers once owned one and told her that sometimes the crickets would even get away.

Oh my gosh, she won! I was losing it! It was the most amazing thing ever. She even admitted she totally didn’t expect it – she hadn’t written a speech because she thought Cynthia Erivo, Kate Hudson, Chase Infiniti, Amanda Seyfried, and even Emma Stone were going to take it! Can you believe it? She was up against all of them and still won! I’m still screaming!

Byrne expressed his surprise, saying, “I’m really shocked!” He shared the news with Mary Bronstein, who wrote the amazing screenplay and specifically asked him to be involved. He was thrilled and grateful that they also wanted him on the project, calling them wonderful and expressing his affection.

She thanked the entire film crew, saying, “I really appreciate you believing in me and giving me this chance. We filmed the movie in just 25 days with a very small budget – about $8.50! Because it’s such a small film, being here is a really big deal for me.”
