Teyana Taylor was already a winner before the 2026 Golden Globes even began.
The actress from One Battle After Another won the award for Best Supporting Female Actor at the ceremony on January 11th, but she was particularly touched by a moment she shared with Julia Roberts on the red carpet.
According to the Associated Press, Julia and Teyana shared a warm moment on the red carpet. Julia, who was presenting, put her hand on Teyana’s waist while speaking with her. Teyana, the star of All’s Fair, was seen wiping away tears of laughter while listening to Julia.
Shortly after meeting Julia Roberts, Teyana shared her thoughts on the experience with the actress she considers a hero, and how Julia made it all possible.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 35-year-old described how the performer dramatically cleared a path through the crowd. She said it was a bit frightening, but also looked like magic. When the performer approached her, she became emotional and asked her to stop, saying, ‘Please don’t come any closer – my eyes are watering!’
The singer of “Gonna Love Me” said she was shocked to meet her, explaining that this woman is a huge inspiration and really touched her deeply, even making her cry.
Teyana, who shares 10-year-old Iman and 5-year-old Rue with her ex, Iman Shumpert, didn’t repeat Julia’s exact words, but said it was precisely what she needed to hear at the time.

She shared with ET that her mother really revitalized her. “She gave me so much energy, and I desperately needed it. It was incredible!”
I was so thrilled to see Teyana continuing to enjoy herself with Julia, even while accepting her incredible award! It was amazing watching her beat out such a talented group of actresses – Ariana Grande, Amy Madigan, Emily Blunt, Elle Fanning, and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas – to win Best Supporting Actress. She was clearly moved when she accepted, and her shout-out to ‘brown sisters and little brown girls’ watching at home was just so powerful and inspiring.
She spoke from the stage, declaring that their kindness wasn’t a weakness, nor was their vulnerability a failing. They weren’t excessive, and their brilliance didn’t require anyone’s approval. They had a right to be present and valued everywhere, and their voices and aspirations deserved to be heard and nurtured.
