While Apple TV is still growing as a streaming service, it’s quickly becoming a major player in science fiction. Recent years have brought popular original sci-fi shows and movies like Foundation, Severance, Silo, and For All Mankind. The platform continued this success in 2025 with a new, highly-rated sci-fi drama. Now that the first season has finished, fans waiting for season two have received good news, suggesting the show may avoid a common issue with streaming series.
Apple TV+’s sci-fi series Pluribus, which became a surprise hit in late 2025 and was praised as one of the year’s best, might be returning for a second season sooner than fans expect. Rhea Seehorn, who plays Carol Sturka in the show, recently shared that creator Vince Gilligan is committed to avoiding a long wait between seasons. According to Discussing Film, Seehorn said Gilligan wants to deliver a high-quality show for fans as quickly as possible, and they’re aiming for a fast turnaround.
Pluribus Season 2 Can Avoid the Streaming Season Gap

While streaming services have brought us some amazing TV shows, they’ve also led to much longer waits between seasons. Unlike traditional TV, which typically had new seasons every year with only a few months in between, popular streaming shows now often take two to three years—or even more—to return. This is because streaming shows tend to have higher production costs and a grander scale, even though they usually have fewer episodes per season than older TV shows.
Viewers have noticed a growing gap between seasons of their favorite shows on streaming services. For example, fans have waited over three years for the final season of Stranger Things and season three of Euphoria (which is finally starting production). Apple TV+ shows like Severance have also experienced lengthy delays. While popular shows can often withstand these breaks and even build hype, long waits can create problems. Viewers might lose interest, the story’s flow can be disrupted, and shows risk losing viewers or having underwhelming premieres.
We still don’t know when Season 2 of Pluribus will be released, and it might be a couple of years before it arrives. However, the show is still incredibly popular after a fantastic first season. It received a 98% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and became Apple TV+’s most-watched drama, even beating out shows like Severance and Ted Lasso. Despite a potential wait of two or three years, fans are likely to be excited when the new season finally appears, hoping it will be just as successful as the first.
