Akira Toriyama’s legendary manga, Dragon Ball, first appeared over forty years ago in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. It quickly became the most famous shonen anime and manga series, fundamentally shaping the genre as we know it. Dragon Ball is remembered for establishing many common shonen themes that continue to inspire manga artists and popular shows today. Over the years, the franchise has delivered incredible moments and introduced beloved characters through its various series, movies, and spin-offs. Following the initial anime in 1986, Dragon Ball Z began in 1989, continuing the story from the manga after a period of time had passed.
The series featured the introduction of Future Trunks, who surprisingly revealed he was the son of Bulma and Vegeta before they even became a couple. He was the second character to achieve the Super Saiyan transformation. Traveling back in time from the future using a time machine his mother built, he warned Goku and his friends about the dangerous Androids that were coming. Future Trunks ultimately fought alongside the Z Fighters and was essential to their win.
5) Future Trunks Wasn’t Overwhelmed By Goku’s Powers

After Goku returned to Earth, he was definitely stronger than Future Trunks, but Trunks was still very powerful. Goku had always been the strongest of the Z Fighters, but becoming a Super Saiyan increased the difference in their strength considerably. At the time, Future Trunks was the only one who could even come close to matching Goku’s level. Eager to test Goku’s abilities, Trunks asked for a sparring match and wasn’t easily defeated, while everyone watching was amazed by Goku’s power.
4) Future Trunks Became Even More Powerful Than Semi-Perfect Cell

I watched as Future Trunks and Vegeta emerged from the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, noticeably stronger than before. They’d reached a new power level, even exceeding Semi-Perfect Cell, who’d already absorbed Android 17. It was amazing to see Vegeta finally acknowledge his son’s strength, realizing Trunks could defeat Cell on his own. It struck me that if Vegeta hadn’t foolishly allowed Cell to absorb Android 18 and reach his perfect form, the whole ordeal would have been over much sooner.
3) Future Trunks Transforms into Super Saiyan Third Grade

Seeing Cell so easily defeat Vegeta filled Future Trunks with anger, but it also gave him a chance to show his full power without Vegeta knowing he’d become stronger. Trunks had trained hard in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, reaching a level beyond a normal Super Saiyan, though not quite Super Saiyan 2. He was able to fight Cell as an equal, with Trunks being stronger and Cell being faster. Trunks even pushed himself further by transforming into Third Grade, but Cell ultimately won by relying on his superior speed.
2) Future Trunks Saved His World From The Androids

Future Trunks wasn’t strong enough to defeat the Androids before he traveled back in time. But after intense training and fighting, he became powerful enough to easily beat Androids 17 and 18 in his future timeline. Even though he couldn’t bring back those who were lost – Dragon Balls were no longer available in his time – he did manage to save the world from the Androids’ destruction. Trunks never forgot the people who died fighting the Androids and carried their memories with him.
1) Future Trunks Effortlessly Killed Frieza and King Cold

Trunks made an incredible first impression by effortlessly defeating Mecha Frieza, King Cold, and their entire force. Frieza, believing Goku was still away, saw this as the perfect chance to get revenge and destroy Earth. He was sure nobody could stand against him, but he hadn’t counted on another Super Saiyan. With a single stroke of his sword, Future Trunks completely defeated Frieza, sending him flying and ultimately destroying him.
