Andy Garcia’s Landman Season 2 Arc Officially Confirms What the Show Is Missing

Fans say Season 2 of Landman is finally delivering what the show needed: a deeper look into the characters. While some viewers are enjoying the focus away from Tommy Norris’ (Billy Bob Thornton) chaotic family life with Angela (Ali Larter) and Ainsley Norris (Michelle Randolph), the season has proven divisive among the audience of the Paramount+ oil drama.

Look, as a movie fan, I get that the family stuff with Tommy, Cooper, and Ariana is important to some viewers of Landman. But honestly, a lot of us are really there for the oil field action, and those weird side stories can feel like they slow things down. But the episode “Plans, Tears and Sirens” actually surprised me – it dives deeper into someone else’s life, and it’s a welcome change of pace.

Landman Season 2 Episode 9 Pulls Back The Curtain On Gallino’s Home Life

I really loved seeing more of Andy Garcia’s character, Gallino, at home with his wife, Bella (Stefania Spampinato) in this episode. It gave us a glimpse into the personal side of this powerful cartel boss. There was this beautiful scene where Gallino and Bella were getting ready for the day, and he actually asks her to come with him, saying, ‘Let me show you the future.’ It was a really touching moment and made me think about what he envisions for them both.

The scene opens with Bella finding her husband and noticing his nice suit. This leads Gallino to suggest she accompany him for the day. Although she initially mentions having lunch plans with friends, she enthusiastically agrees to join him, excited to wear a favorite dress for a day out in the sun.

Bella spends the day with Gallino, Tommy, and the M-Tex team as they travel to Louisiana for the launch of the oil company’s new offshore rig. Throughout the day, Bella and Gallino enjoy being together, offering a lighter, more intimate side to the typically intense world of the oil business.

Gallino’s Relationship With Bella Is What Landman Has Been Missing

Seeing Garcia’s character, Danny Morrell, in work situations highlights what the show needed – a contrast to the usual drama. The easy and comfortable relationship between Gallino and his wife offers a peaceful alternative to Tommy’s stressful home life. Taking Angela anywhere is always difficult, and it really shows how challenging things are for the Norris family.

Their relationship is currently unstable and filled with tension, as Angela tends to create drama in her interactions with Tommy. Things are made worse by Tommy’s frequent dismissive or sarcastic behavior towards her. Despite recently appearing to be engaged again, their history of divorce and lack of firm plans to remarry add to the uncertainty.

Tommy and Angela’s relationship is central to the show Landman, providing a necessary balance. However, some viewers have expressed online that they’d prefer less focus on this storyline. It’s possible that what the audience really wants is a character who has a stable and happy home life, offering a contrast to the other dramatic elements of the show.

Why Landman Season 3 Needs To Feature More Of Gallino And Bella

The relationship between Gallino and Bella provides a nice contrast to Tommy’s difficult situation with his ex-wife, and exploring it further in Season 3 of Landman would be a good addition. Depending on how the current season ends, Garcia’s character could also be very important in the next installment.

It would be great to see more of the characters played by Garcia and Spampinato; their natural chemistry could really enrich the story. Season 2 has already given us more of Garcia’s character, Landman, as promised, and exploring his family life has added depth to his personality.

Although Landman occasionally appears friendly, he hasn’t explained why Gallino is assisting Cami and Cooper beyond the promise of financial gain. Morrell, a very determined character, might be hiding even darker intentions, or he could be more complex than he initially seems.

Moving forward in Landman, seeing more positive relationships could be a welcome shift, offering a break from the negativity between Tommy and Angela. Viewers haven’t been enjoying Cooper’s relationship with Ariana, so developing other connections, such as the budding romance between [characters’ names], feels important.
