Robert Pattinson paddled his way into Marty Supreme. 

It appears that a former star of the Twilight films secretly appeared in a movie starring Timothée Chalamet, and you might not have known it unless you were listening carefully for their voice.

During a recent interview with Variety at the British Film Institute, director Josh Safdie revealed a hidden detail about his film Marty Supreme. He stated that the voice of the commentator and umpire in the British Open semifinals scene is actually actor Pattinson. Safdie described it as a small ‘easter egg’ that most viewers haven’t noticed.

So, how did the director of Uncut Gems convince Robert to voice a character in the ping pong movie, the one that won Timothée a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy?

Josh explained that a man came to observe the game, and Josh realized he didn’t know anyone from Britain. That’s why the man ended up being the umpire.

Robert appears briefly in Marty Supreme, reuniting him with Josh after starring in the 2017 film Good Time, which Josh directed with his brother Benny Safdie. Robert contacted them directly via email, hoping to work together again, and they scheduled a meeting.

Robert recalled their first face-to-face meeting in 2017, telling Vulture they simply reached a general understanding to collaborate. He said it wasn’t about a specific project, but he left feeling confident that something good would come of it, saying, “Yeah.”

The actor, then 39, explained that movie meetings usually involve just the director, where both sides try to make a good impression. He said this meeting, with two people present, felt more like being part of a performance.

Robert, who is a father to a 22-month-old daughter and is engaged to Suki Waterhouse, found the atmosphere exactly what he wanted.

He explained that he was looking for a project where he could fully immerse himself to achieve a high level of creative energy. He felt this group had created a complete and self-sufficient world, something more than just a typical film production – a whole environment he could become a part of.
