Squid Game creator’s next big series for Netflix revealed – and it follows someone with “long-hidden powers”

Following the conclusion of Squid Game‘s third season last year, Netflix has announced a new project with the show’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk.

Hwang is producing a new Korean drama called The Dealer, currently being filmed. The series will feature Jung So-min, Ryoo Seung-bum, Lee Soo-hyuk, and Ryu Kyung-soo.

This crime drama centers around Geonhwa, a talented casino dealer whose dream wedding is disrupted. She’s forced to reveal secret abilities and navigate the high-stakes world of gambling, all in an attempt to still make it to the altar.

Geonhwa is a highly skilled gambler who’s always stayed away from the darker side of casinos. But when a housing scam ruins her wedding plans, she’s pulled into the criminal underworld. To overcome this, she must use all of her abilities and expertise.

Jung will play the role of Geonhwa, and Ryoo will portray Hwang Chisu. Chisu is a man down on his luck, making ends meet by gambling until he gets involved in Geonhwa’s risky scheme.

Lee will star as Jo Jun, a gambler who manages to change his luck, while Ryu will play Choi Wooseung, a detective and the soon-to-be husband of Geonhwa.

Award-winning cinematographer Choi Young-hwan will direct the series, which is being produced by the team behind Squid Game at Firstman Studio.

It’s still too early to say if The Dealer will be as popular as Squid Game, which is currently Netflix’s biggest hit ever.

Seasons 2 and 3 rank third and fourth all-time, only surpassed by the first season of Wednesday.
