Who says Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey do not belong together?
I’m so thrilled! It seems like the incredibly talented people who were in Wicked aren’t done working together yet – they’re reuniting for the West End production of Sunday in the Park With George, which is fantastic news for fans like me.
Talk of a possible return for the musical created by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine started in December. Jonathan and Ariana officially announced the exciting news on January 14th with an Instagram post. The photo showed them standing in front of the painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte at The Art Institute of Chicago – the painting that inspired the musical.
Jonathan shared a photo of himself and his costar sitting in front of the famous Georges Seurat painting and quoted a line from the show’s main song in the caption: ‘All it has to be is good.’
News about Ariana and Jonathan’s new project arrives shortly after Ariana expressed her desire to perform onstage again, more than 15 years after she first appeared on Broadway in the 2008 production of 13.
Ariana shared her love for theater in a recent interview with Nicole Kidman. She revealed that she even performed on Broadway as a chorus member when she was just 13 years old.
Despite later achieving fame with shows like Victorious and a successful pop career—including an Oscar nomination—Ariana Grande has said her time on Broadway provided the best training she ever received.
She thought it was both wonderful and difficult. She believes that experience built her endurance, and she’d really enjoy performing on stage again.

She said it’s funny, because she always imagined that’s what she’d do with her life when she was a little girl.
Ariana’s part in Sunday in the Park With George feels like a return to her roots, but she’s not limiting herself. She’s also preparing to tour with her album, eternal sunshine, and will appear in the upcoming movie Folker In-Law with Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro, which will be released in November.
Ariana described filming the movie as “a blast” and said it felt “really special” during a November interview on Good Hang.
