A new Resident Evil Showcase is coming soon, promising a closer look at the gameplay and story of the eagerly awaited Resident Evil Requiem, and getting fans ready to revisit Raccoon City. Producer Masato Kumazawa shared that while the development team was interested in showing what happened after the original events, feedback from fans greatly influenced their decisions.
In an interview with GamesRadar, the developer explained that Resident Evil 7 and Village each tried something new with the series. While players generally enjoyed those games, many also wanted to see the core storyline continue, which led to the decision to focus a new game on the events of Raccoon City.
As others have noted, the game’s setting isn’t limited to a single location. For example, the clinic featured in the event isn’t actually in Raccoon City, according to Kumazawa. He’s referring to the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center, where the trailer suggests Victor Gideon is hiding and waiting for characters like Leon S. Kennedy.
Raccoon City is significant for many reasons. It’s the place where important characters’ lives were forever altered, and it set in motion the events that would unfold in later games—and cause even more trouble. For instance, Neo Umbrella likely wouldn’t have existed in Resident Evil 6 if Derek C. Simmons hadn’t gotten hold of the G-Virus or proposed bombing the city to stop the outbreak.
Resident Evil Requiem arrives on February 27th for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game follows Grace Ashcroft as she investigates a string of murders at the Wrenwood Hotel – the same place where her mother, Alyssa, was killed. She quickly becomes caught up in a dangerous scheme orchestrated by a villain named Gideon, who plans to unleash something called Elpis.
