10 Most Powerful Suicide Squad Members

The Suicide Squad is a team of DC Comics’ most notorious supervillains, forced to work for the government under threat of death. Created by the strict Amanda Waller, these imprisoned criminals are sent on dangerous missions, and most don’t survive. However, a few members are incredibly powerful – strong enough to not only survive, but sometimes even become uncontrollable, even for Waller.

The idea behind the Suicide Squad is that even incredibly dangerous criminals can be managed and used for missions. But this is often a naive thought, especially considering the power some of these villains possess. At times, controlling them becomes extremely difficult, as the Squad frequently recruits individuals capable of global destruction.

10) The General

General Wade Eiling, similar to Amanda Waller, was willing to do whatever it took for his country, even if it meant crossing moral boundaries. When he developed a brain tumor, he transferred his consciousness into the body of the Shaggy Man – a massive, incredibly resilient creature. His goal was to eliminate the Justice League, whom he considered a major threat to America. The transformation turned him into a nearly invincible force. Eiling initially joined the Suicide Squad at Waller’s request, but his intelligence and power allowed him to overthrow the team, killing many members. As the Shaggy Man, he single-handedly defeated the entire Justice League and can instantly heal from any injury.

9) Maxwell Lord

Maxwell Lord isn’t physically strong, but he’s incredibly powerful telepathically. He was once part of Task Force XI, a group of Earth’s most dangerous telepathic villains, a sort of offshoot of the Suicide Squad. After the team defeated Brainiac, Lord escaped and gathered a group of ex-Suicide Squad members with the goal of eliminating Waller. Lord’s telepathic abilities are among the best in the DC Universe. At his most powerful, he can control minds – even Superman’s – create illusions, and make entire populations forget he exists. Because of his abilities and intelligence, Waller severely underestimated his potential to break free from her control.

8) Doctor Polaris

Doctor Polaris is DC Comics’ version of a magnetic master like Magneto, and his powers pose a global threat, often putting him at odds with Green Lantern. He was one of the very first members of Amanda Waller’s Suicide Squad, but proved too dangerous to contain. The original team eventually escaped and attempted to kill Waller. Polaris is exceptionally inventive with his abilities, capable of everything from controlling the iron in someone’s bloodstream to creating massive earthquakes and volcanoes. He’s even demonstrated feats like knocking the Justice League’s Watchtower out of orbit, lifting an entire city, and shifting the Earth’s magnetic poles to trigger worldwide storms.

7) Manchester Black

When the incredibly powerful alien Imperiex attacked Earth, the Suicide Squad brought in one of Superman’s deadliest enemies, Manchester Black. Black possesses amazing mental and physical powers, capable of disabling Superman. He’s demonstrated this by stripping Superboy of his abilities, causing strokes from a distance, destroying mountains with his mind, creating illusions that fool Superman, and even inducing seizures in the Man of Tomorrow. Black’s mental abilities are so strong they rival those of Martian Manhunter. While working with the Squad, Black also took control of the destructive Doomsday, directing him to attack Imperiex.

6) Mongul II

Mongul II is the son of the original Mongul and a powerful, ruthless ruler who controls the space station Warworld. He’s a major enemy of Superman. Though once believed dead after fighting alongside the Suicide Squad against Imperiex, he survived and continues to try and conquer the universe. Possessing strength comparable to a Kryptonian, Mongul II is an incredibly skilled and dangerous fighter. He’s demonstrated his power by defeating formidable opponents – he even killed his own sister, Mongal, with a single blow, and has battled Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman at the same time. He once defeated Arkillo, one of the strongest members of the Sinestro Corps, in hand-to-hand combat, and briefly took control of the Corps itself, using them to instill fear throughout the galaxy.

5) Bizarro

Bizarro, a flawed clone of Superman, is unique among Suicide Squad members because he volunteered to join, hoping to be a hero. However, Amanda Waller exploited his simple way of thinking to force him to help her capture all of Earth’s superheroes during the Absolute Power event. While Bizarro possesses strength, speed, flight, and resilience similar to Superman, he isn’t as intelligent. Despite this, he’s incredibly powerful – capable of moving mountains, sending someone flying into the sun, and even defeating the powerful demon Trigon. He can also freeze things with his eyes and breathe fire.

4) Black Adam

As a huge comic book fan, I’ve always been fascinated by Black Adam. He’s the original champion of Shazam, but gets his power from six Egyptian gods, which instantly makes him a bit different. Over the years, he’s walked a tricky line – sometimes a target for heroes, other times fighting with the Suicide Squad. I remember reading about how he actually asked for their help when the sorceress Circe tried to wreck everything, and they teamed up to stop her. Honestly, he’s one of the most powerful anti-heroes DC has, and his abilities are insane. It’s not just brute force, either. The god Zehuti gives him incredible tactical awareness, letting him exploit weaknesses. Anphu grants him super speed, enough to hang with the Flash! And then there’s Atem, who lets him blast energy, and Hershef, who’s given him the strength to move the moon – seriously! It’s a really cool power set, and it makes him such a compelling character.

3) General Zod

General Zod, once the military leader of Krypton, is one of Superman’s most powerful and dangerous foes. Like Superman, Zod possesses incredible powers, but he lacks any sense of compassion or ethics. Amanda Waller attempted to control Zod by surgically implanting a Kryptonite bomb in his head. Although he initially cooperated with the Squad, Zod predictably freed himself. He cleverly used his heat vision, reflected in a mirror, to destroy the bomb within his own skull and then escaped. Considering Zod’s history of incredible strength – he’s broken Superman’s arm, sent Mongul flying into outer space with a single punch, moved at the speed of light, and easily vaporized opponents – Waller should have anticipated his escape.

2) Enchantress

Enchantress is one of the original members of the Suicide Squad and is considered one of DC Comics’ most powerful magic users. Originally June Moon, a compassionate woman, she became host to an immensely powerful, otherworldly witch. This possession granted her incredible abilities, including controlling minds, teleporting, manipulating time, projecting energy, raising the dead, controlling the weather, reading and moving things with her mind, and even altering reality itself. She’s demonstrated this power by creating a massive monster from thousands of people, defeating the Justice League with a terrifying storm, and causing widespread destruction and conflict. Even other powerful magic users in the DC Universe, like Zatanna and John Constantine, find it difficult to defeat her.

1) Lobo

Lobo, the infamous galactic bounty hunter, is a virtually indestructible force of destruction with a staggering kill count. Once part of the original Suicide Squad, he was locked up because he was simply too powerful. This ruthless character even destroyed his entire race, the Czarnians, just for entertainment. As a Czarnian, Lobo possesses incredible strength – he can crush an entire city into a ball and devour it, defeat planet-creating aliens, and even pull a star with his chain. He also has an amazing ability to heal – he can regenerate from just a single drop of blood, and each drop creates another Lobo clone just as powerful. His destructive potential is so immense that even Heaven and Hell are wary of him.
