PlayStation has shared a list of the 20 most popular PS5 games of 2025, based on downloads in North America and Europe.
Honestly, the results weren’t much of a shock. The yearly sports titles dominated, as usual. NBA 2K26 was the biggest hit here in North America, and over in Europe, EA Sports FC 26 was the top seller. Pretty standard stuff, really.
So, looking at what games everyone’s playing in both regions, it’s pretty much the same story. Grand Theft Auto 5 and Minecraft are still huge, as always! And Battlefield 6 actually broke into the top five in both places, which is awesome.
Forza Horizon 5 was a big hit in Europe, ranking fourth in sales, but it didn’t perform as well in North America, where it reached 14th place.
What’s most surprising in these charts is that the game, originally only available on Xbox, performed better in Europe than Sony’s Ghost of Yotei. It’s worth mentioning, though, that it wasn’t released as a physical copy on PlayStation 5.
Xbox games released on PlayStation 5 consistently perform well, so it’s not surprising they’re continuing to release games on other platforms. Upcoming titles like Avowed, launching next month, and Halo: Campaign Evolved, planned for later this year, are examples of this strategy.
Ghost of Yotei performed reasonably well in North America, reaching the top ten games, but just missed out on beating the popular multiplayer game ARC Raiders.
So, as a shooter fan, I was a little surprised to see Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 didn’t even crack the top five in either region – it ended up in seventh place. Honestly, that kinda makes sense considering I’ve heard the sales haven’t been great, especially for a Call of Duty game.
Despite winning numerous Game of the Year awards, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 reached 10th place in Europe and 18th in North America. We’re curious to know how many people downloaded the game after it started receiving awards.
It’s also worth noting which highly anticipated PS5 games weren’t released this year. Titles like Hollow Knight: Silksong, Death Stranding 2, Mafia: The Old Country, Metal Gear Solid Delta, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and Silent Hill F, among others, didn’t make the list.
