Sony Nukes Thousands of Shovelware Games from PS5, PS4

Sony has seemingly taken action against one of the PS Store’s most prolific shovelware makers.

ThiGames, known for popular games like The Jumping Burrito, was a major publisher on both the PS5 and PS4, offering over 1,000 different titles.

A lot of these games were very similar, simply changing the appearance of the main character – for example, The Jumping Pizza and The Jumping Taco. It’s easy to see they used the same basic concept.

But as of yesterday, all of its games have been axed from the PS Store in all regions.

We checked the official website for many of their listed titles and found that none of them were available to buy. This is still true as of today.

Sony and ThiGames haven’t yet responded to our inquiries, but we’ve contacted them for more information. We’ll share any updates we receive in this article.

A number of companies are making money by releasing a lot of low-quality games on the PlayStation Store. These games often have very easy trophies – specifically, the coveted Platinum Trophies – and players can earn multiple trophies across both PS5 and PS4, and even from different geographic regions. It’s even possible to get six or more Platinum Trophies from just one of these games.

Although you can still earn Trophies for games from ThiGames, those games are no longer available to purchase.

Could this be the start of a push to improve the quality of games available on the PlayStation Store? While there’s still a lot of low-quality content, the recent removal of games from ThiGames suggests the platform holder might be taking action, making the store a bit more refined.
