A Monster Hunter Wilds player believes they’ve discovered a fix for the game’s performance issues: enabling all downloadable content actually seems to improve how it runs.
The PC version of Monster Hunter Wilds hasn’t been running well, and that’s hurt the game’s initial popularity. Capcom is working on fixes, but performance is still a problem. Luckily, players are trying to figure out what’s causing the issues, and one Reddit user may have found a key discovery.
A Reddit user named de_Tylmarande, who also experienced performance problems in Dragon’s Dogma 2, shared a detailed post about their findings. They discovered a significant difference in how the game ran when playing on their friend’s account compared to their own. The only difference between the two accounts was that their friend had purchased all of the game’s cosmetic DLC.
De_Tylmarande noticed performance problems in the game and discovered a fix by modifying the game files. They made the game think it had all downloadable content installed, without actually unlocking the content itself (to avoid illegal copying). This significantly improved performance, especially in towns, as shown in a video they released. They believe the original performance issues were caused by the game constantly checking for DLC ownership.
Although it looks bad that players need to purchase over $500 worth of downloadable content just to improve the game’s performance, de_Tylmarande doesn’t think Capcom intentionally designed it that way. They believe it’s a bug in the game’s code that needs to be fixed. However, if Capcom doesn’t address the issue, they’re prepared to release a mod that removes the DLC requirements.
