The Odds Of These 4 MCU Characters Being In Avengers: Doomsday Just Skyrocketed

Marvel’s six-hour video revealing the cast of Avengers: Doomsday didn’t include everyone who would be returning. Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. hinted at a later announcement to complete the cast list, but it hasn’t happened. Instead, we’ve learned about more cast members through other sources, like the trailer for Doomsday featuring Steve Rogers.

Rumors are swirling that Famke Janssen, who played Jean Grey, and Halle Berry, who played Storm, might be secretly part of the cast. Plus, Kathryn Newton hinted she’s returning as Cassie Lang. Now, director Nia DaCosta has added fuel to the fire, mentioning that “some of my friends are in [Avengers: Doomsday],” which has everyone speculating about surprise appearances.

Currently, Kelsey Grammer, who played Beast in a post-credits scene in The Marvels (appearing only as CGI), is the only confirmed cast member from that film for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Director Nia DaCosta probably means she’s been discussing potential appearances with other actors she’s collaborated with in the past, suggesting they might also be in the movie.

Monica Rambeau

Considering the events of The Marvels, Monica Rambeau seems like the most probable character to appear in Doomsday. The film ended with her stranded in a different universe, where she encountered Beast and the X-Men. If Kevin Grammer reprises his role as Hank McCoy from that universe, it would be strange if Monica wasn’t involved, particularly since interdimensional travel could be central to the story.

Besides the story reasons for bringing Monica back, actress Teyonah Parris is also a friend of director Nia DaCosta. They previously collaborated on DaCosta’s film Candyman, and then worked together again on The Marvels. It’s likely Parris was one of the friends DaCosta was visiting while filming.

Even before the director spoke about it, most fans suspected Monica would appear in Doomsday. Months ago, people thought Parris hinted at her involvement on social media. Now, with her known whereabouts and the news that Beast is returning, it seems almost certain she’ll be back.

Captain Marvel

With comments from the director of The Marvels, Brie Larson potentially returning as Carol Danvers in a future Doomsday film seems more likely. They’ve only collaborated once, but the relationship between DaCosta and Larson has always appeared positive. Given that DaCosta last directed a Captain Marvel film, it makes sense that the Russos would seek her input on the character’s future.

This isn’t the only hint that Captain Marvel might appear in Doomsday. Last year, Brie Larson shared a photo where she was trying to conceal a blonde wig, jokingly telling fans not to pay attention to her look. Although Doomsday wasn’t officially in production then, her other project at the time, Close Personal Friends (which had begun filming two months earlier), didn’t need that level of secrecy.

Since Carol Danvers stayed on Earth at the end of The Marvels, it would be odd not to include her in future movies. Given her limited role in Avengers: Endgame, the filmmakers likely want to give her a more significant part this time. Plus, with Monica now stuck in a different universe, it makes sense for her to be central to the effort to rescue her and potentially unite the X-Men and Avengers.

Valkyrie

If you’re wondering who director Nia DaCosta considers a close friend, Tessa Thompson, who plays Valkyrie, seems like a strong candidate to appear in the next Avengers movie. DaCosta and Thompson have worked together for years, starting with DaCosta’s first feature film, Little Woods, in 2018. They recently collaborated again on a film called Hedda, and DaCosta was instrumental in getting Valkyrie a brief appearance in The Marvels.

The Russo brothers previously featured Valkyrie briefly in Avengers: Endgame, and there’s speculation about a larger role for her in Doomsday. Even if she only makes a quick appearance in the next Avengers film, it wouldn’t be shocking to learn that director Nia DaCosta is visiting the set to see Tessa Thompson, a close friend, while she’s filming.

Kamala Khan

I truly hope we see Kamala Khan again! Iman Vellani was absolutely fantastic as Ms. Marvel and completely won me—and everyone else, it seems—over. It was so exciting to see her teaming up with other young heroes at the end of The Marvels, and I’m really rooting for her future in the MCU. From what I’ve heard, Iman and director Nia DaCosta really clicked while making the film, which is wonderful to see.

Given that several actors from previous Marvel films appear in Doomsday, Vellani’s character, Kamala, has a good chance of being involved. With hints that Cassie Lang will return and ongoing rumors about Hailee Steinfeld joining as Kate Bishop, it’s reasonable to expect Ms. Marvel to be part of Avengers: Doomsday when the Young Avengers potentially make their first appearance.
