Dearest gentle reader, it isn’t every day Shonda Rhimes appears with her three daughters.
The premiere of Bridgerton season four in Paris on January 14th was a family affair. The show’s executive producer was accompanied on the purple carpet by his three children: Harper, age 22, and Emerson and Beckett, ages 12 and 11 respectively.
Shonda celebrated wearing a metallic pink dress and cape, beaming with her daughters by her side. Harper, to her right, looked elegant in a black dress with gold details. On Shonda’s left, Beckett wore a black dress decorated with pink and green flowers, and Emerson sparkled in a shimmering purple and silver gown.
Okay, so Harper’s been to a premiere with her mom before, which was cute, but honestly? Seeing Emerson and Beckett on the Bridgerton red carpet was EVERYTHING. It was their first time ever, and I completely lost it – they looked incredible! I’ve been following them for ages and finally seeing them shine like that… it was a dream come true, seriously.
The event also included stars Luke Thompson, who plays Benedict Bridgerton, and Yerin Ha, who plays Sophie Baek – the leads in the show’s fourth season.
Even though viewers are familiar with the show’s typical romance storylines, Shonda Rhimes is enthusiastic about the fresh direction season four takes, launching on Netflix January 29th. This season, Benedict faces unique challenges finding love, as his potential partner is a maid – a situation his siblings didn’t encounter.

Shonda Rhimes explained to Jennifer Hudson on January 6th’s episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show that this season of her show has a unique feel. She described it as having an ‘upstairs-downstairs’ dynamic, meaning we see both the lives of the wealthy family and their household staff. She also highlighted that the central romance explores this same contrast between different worlds, which she believes makes for a compelling story.
The creator of Grey’s Anatomy says Luke and Yerin perfectly play the roles of Benedict and Sophie.
“Their chemistry is amazing,” she added. “Amazing.”

She shared that while finishing the last touches, Shonda felt more emotionally affected than she had with previous versions.
She admitted this season made her cry, describing it as a deeply emotional and heartwarming romance.
Although the series about Benedict and Sophie’s romance won’t be available until January 29th, Netflix has given fans a sneak peek with some behind-the-scenes photos from the set. Keep reading to see them!
