It’s mid-January 2026, and DC Comics continues to deliver great content. Last week was particularly strong, with titles like DC K.O.: Knightfight #3 and Batman #5. When I started these weekly recaps, I was a bit worried about finding enough new releases to justify continuing, but so far, DC Comics is proving they have plenty to offer.
As a comic book fan, I’m happy to say DC delivered some great stuff on January 14th! It wasn’t just the newest issue of DC K.O. #3 that caught my eye. We also got the second-to-last issue of Batman and Robin, plus another chapter in Supergirl‘s story. And I especially loved the Action Comics issue where we see a young Clark Kent stepping up to support the military. Seriously, there were some fantastic moments this week, and you won’t want to skip these books. Let’s dive into the best DC had to offer on January 14th!
5. The Return of the Ventriloquist

Okay, so I just read Batman and Robin #29, and it’s pretty wild. It’s basically the second-to-last issue with Phillip Kennedy Johnson writing the book, which is a little sad, honestly. This one brings back Arnold Wesker, aka The Ventriloquist, and it’s a full-on return! I always thought it was a tough ask to make a villain with a dummy scary, but the creative team nailed it. Batman and Robin are seriously up against it, trying to stop Wesker from unleashing chaos all over again now that he’s back to his old tricks.
4. Superboy Fights for the U.S. Military

The latest issue of Action Comics offers a fresh perspective on Clark Kent’s early days as Superboy, and it introduces a surprising twist. General Sam Lane asks Superboy to help with a dangerous military mission, promising to keep his personal life private in return. This sends Superboy to Modora to save Silas Stone and retrieve a weapon Stone was forced to create. The mission is incredibly challenging and pushes Superboy to his limits, even giving him a close encounter with death. Though he succeeds in rescuing Stone, the experience reveals the complexities of being a hero.
3. Supergirl’s Violent New Year Party

The often-overlooked Supergirl series recently aired a New Year’s special that unexpectedly causes tension within Kara’s friend group. When Kara, Lena Luthor, and Lesla-Lar attend a party where no alcohol is served, Lena becomes intrigued by the effects of alcohol – something she can’t experience herself. She creates a special drink to get Lesla intoxicated, which unfortunately leads to Lesla becoming aggressive. Supergirl also ends up feeling the effects of the drink, and a fight breaks out at the party. It was definitely a chaotic way to begin the new year!
2. Larfleeze Attacks Oa

I’m a big fan of Larfleeze, the only Orange Lantern, and I really enjoyed the latest issue of Green Lantern Corps. The story focuses on an attempt to unite the different emotional power sources in the DC Universe by having their most powerful users collaborate. But Larfleeze has his own plans: he wants to steal Oa for himself! He overloads his power battery, attacks the leaders of these power sources, and creates a massive construct of himself to take over Oa. Larfleeze has always been greedy, but this time he’s aiming for complete domination.
1. DC K.O.’s Quarterfinals

There’s just so much that happened in DC K.O. this week! The issue centered around the tournament’s quarterfinals, with four really exciting tag-team matches. We saw some unexpected team-ups, like Joker bringing in Mr. Mxyzptlk for a funny surprise, and Superman battling alongside Shazam. It was a thrilling read from beginning to end, culminating in the arrival of Absolute Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman. If you missed it, I definitely recommend checking it out – it was easily one of the most exciting comics this week.
