One of the Biggest Movies of 2024 Just Arrived to Peacock (And It’s a Sequels to a ‘90s Cult Classic)

The 2020s have seen plenty of huge movie releases, and one of the year’s biggest hits just became available on Peacock. The streaming service already boasts popular recent films like Jurassic World Rebirth and the live-action How to Train Your Dragon, and it continued to add to its collection in January with a highly anticipated sequel to a classic movie from the 1990s.

Following a successful run in cinemas during the summer of 2024, the movie Twisters became available on Peacock starting January 15th. This sequel to the 1996 hit Twister stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate Carter, a former storm chaser who, after a dangerous tornado experience five years prior, is convinced to return to Oklahoma. There, she joins a new team and utilizes innovative tracking technology. As multiple storm systems gather over central Oklahoma, Kate and her colleagues find themselves battling for survival.

Twisters Is a Thrilling, Effects-Driven Spectacle That Lives up to the Hype

The 1996 film Twister was a massive hit and set the standard for disaster movies. The recent sequel, Twisters, had high expectations to meet, and it largely delivered. While Twisters earned $372 million globally – less than the original’s $499 million – critics and audiences loved it more. On Rotten Tomatoes, Twisters is rated ‘Certified Fresh’ and ‘Verified Hot’ with a 75% score from critics and a 90% audience rating, both improvements over Twister’s 68% and 59% respectively.

The first movie was famous for its incredible effects, exciting tornado scenes, and captivating story, and ‘Twisters’ successfully built on that foundation. The new film uses cutting-edge computer graphics to create even more realistic and intense storm sequences, offering plenty of action and thrills. While updating the story for today’s world with social media personalities alongside scientists, the leads, played by Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones, were standouts. However, the romantic subplot wasn’t as strong as the focus on characters in the original movie.

ComicBook rated the movie 4 out of 5 stars, calling it a fantastic return to classic blockbuster films. They praised it for being self-aware and confidently delivering exactly what audiences expect.

What’s New on Peacock?

Peacock has been steadily adding new movies and shows this month, with Twisters being the latest. Other recent additions include popular titles like The Da Vinci Code, The Green Mile, House of Gucci, Into The Storm, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and The Shining.
