Jennifer Lawrence Lost Out On Quentin Tarantino Movie To Margot Robbie For A Stunning Reason

Jennifer Lawrence recently reminisced about almost being cast in a Quentin Tarantino film. The 35-year-old actress received a 2026 Golden Globe nomination for her performance in Lynne Ramsay’s Die My Love. She’s also expected to reprise her role in the Hunger Games series later this year.

In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Jennifer Lawrence explained why she didn’t take the role of Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood – Margot Robbie ultimately played the part. Host Josh Horowitz pointed out that Tarantino had previously wanted Lawrence for the Jennifer Jason Leigh role in The Hateful Eight.

Regarding the role, Jennifer Lawrence stated she rejected it, adding she probably shouldn’t have. When asked about Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, she thought she had auditioned, but admitted her memory might be faulty. She believes negative online reactions, specifically comments about her not being “pretty enough” to play Sharon Tate, likely impacted her chances.

Check out Lawrence’s full comments on this below:

He really wanted me for the role, but then people started saying I wasn’t attractive enough to play Sharon Tate. I’m almost certain that’s what happened. Or, maybe I’ve just repeated the story so many times I’ve convinced myself it’s true. It’s possible he never considered me at all, and the online reaction just made it seem like it was about my looks.

Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, received ten Academy Award nominations, including a nod for Best Picture. Brad Pitt won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, and the film also won for Best Production Design. The movie was also significant in launching Margot Robbie to international stardom; she had previously been nominated for an Oscar for her role in I, Tonya.

Jennifer Lawrence hadn’t had a major hit in a while before 2019. Her last Oscar nomination was for the 2015 film Joy. In the years between Joy and 2019, she appeared in X-Men: Apocalypse, Passengers, Red Sparrow, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Her next film, Don’t Look Up in 2021, received a Best Picture nomination.

Jennifer Lawrence is likely to return as Katniss Everdeen with a brief appearance in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, a new movie that takes place before the original Hunger Games series. She’ll also be working with Leonardo DiCaprio again – they previously starred together in Don’t Look Up – in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming horror film, What Happens at Night.

Jennifer Lawrence might have fewer opportunities to collaborate with Quentin Tarantino, as he intends to retire after directing his tenth film. If reports are true that he’s long wanted to work with her, he could consider her for a leading role in that final movie, though one previous concept for the film has already been abandoned.
