How Superman Sets Up Supergirl’s DCU Movie

Dawn of Justice” preparing the ground for “Justice League” and individual films for characters such as Wonder Woman and Aquaman.

James Gunn’s take on DC, particularly Superman, appears to be more about familiarizing viewers with the universe first, rather than overwhelming them with future storylines right away. Instead of typical post-credit scenes that hint at upcoming events, these scenes in Superman are just extra footage from the movie itself. The film’s success is crucial for the continuation of the DC Universe, so Gunn seems to be avoiding setting high expectations that might not be met. This is a lesson learned from past experiences with DC where overpromising and underdelivering has occurred.

With all that said, there is a little bit of a tease for what comes next in the DC Universe.

Superman Features a Cameo from Supergirl

The upcoming series “Supergirl” has wrapped up production and is set to release next summer. It’s been confirmed that it will showcase Jason Momoa’s character, Lobo, and be set in the cosmic realm of the DC Universe, hinted at in previous episodes featuring Superman. Towards the end of the movie, Supergirl, portrayed by Milly Alcock, is seen arriving at the Fortress of Solitude. There, it’s disclosed that Krypto, who Superman has been taking care of while she was on her own space journey, is actually her pet dog. With her return, she reclaims her furry friend. This version of Supergirl appears to have a more rugged side, as she addresses her cousin with a harsh term and looks quite disheveled.

It’s worth mentioning that, unlike Earth’s yellow sun, Kara requires a red sun to get drunk, which is only found on her home planet Krypton. This seems to make her more reckless and destructive than Superman, who tends to be more responsible. As for the movie, it appears that while Superman’s story takes place around the same time as Supergirl’s, it’s unlikely we’ll see Superman or Krypto in the film unless they make a brief appearance in the post-credits scene.

There isn’t much more information about Supergirl aside from her expected resilient demeanor in upcoming events. It’s possible that she might collaborate with Superman in future movies, but only time will tell. Regardless, the DCU seems promising, and Supergirl, portrayed by Milly Alcock, has already left a memorable impact on viewers.

Superman is now playing in theaters.
